Job description

About the role

We are looking to recruit a Connection Reform Senior Manager to join our Customer Connections team based in Warwick or London. This role will oversee and implement National Grid Electricity Transmission’s (NGET) Connection Reform processes.

Reporting to the Head of Customer Management, the Connection Reform Senior Manager will be the primary senior representative for Customer Connections on all aspects of Connection Reform. You will represent NGET and Customer Connections as the central point of accountability on Reform, for both internal and external stakeholders.

This is a delivery focused role and you will be overseeing the end-to-end Connection Reform implementation programme, so a background in policy/strategy with an appetite for delivery would make a great impact.

NGET has an ambition to continue to be a leading, influential voice in industry on Connections Reform. The Connection Reform Senior Manager role will be critical to ensuring that NGET and Customer Connections is set up to deliver on that ambition, ensuring all aspects of shaping policy, designing process and implementing changes into our business-as-usual processes are all being delivered to expectations.

The priorities for Connection Reform are well understood and have significant momentum behind them. The challenge now for NGET is to gear up for the rapid acceleration in pace and scale at which critical initiatives need to be taken forward into delivery, in particular throughout 2024 and 2025.

What you'll be doing

  • Lead on all aspects of Connections Reform that NGET is accountable for delivering or contributing to. This means ensuring all commitments are scoped, planned, resourced, and delivered effectively.
  • Embed a culture of positivity on Connections Reform amongst key internal stakeholders across NGET and National Grid Group. Our business should feel that we are at the forefront of shaping Reform and feel prepared to embrace changes to core processes that are required for successful implementation.
  • Lead on shaping and coordinating the NGET strategic aims for key aspects of Reform, ensuring that internal stakeholders ranging from Executive level to Subject Matter Expert are consulted, informed and aligned on the NGET strategy as appropriate.
  • Act as the key interface for the Customer Connection leadership team on Connection Reform, ensuring active engagement where required of other teams within Customer Connections in shaping and implementing critical changes to business-as-usual processes.
  • Act as an authoritative and compelling external spokesperson for NGET and Customer Connections on Connection Reform. This will include building and owning strong relationships with counterparts in other network organisations in addition to representing NGET on industry steering groups and events.
  • Lead on all external messaging related to Connection Reform, working in partnership with Corporate Affairs to identify proactive opportunities as well as plans for reactive messaging.
  • Establish and foster a strong link to the Customer Connections Transformation function and other NGET Delivery Vehicles, to ensure that Customer Reform is directly aligned to the wider NGET Transformation priorities. It is imperative there is a clear, understandable linkage between Connection Reform and wider change initiatives across the NGET business.
  • Develop and lead a high performing team for Connections Reform, ensuring appropriate capabilities are resourced, either via direct reporting lines or across virtual teams utilising support from Subject Matter Experts in business-as-usual teams.

About you

  • Broad understanding of the energy sector and regulatory issues affecting the industry and long term internal and external influences.
  • Ability to work with and influence executive level and senior leaders within an organisation and engage effectively at multiple levels across an organisation.
  • Ability to lead and deliver high priority change programmes.
  • Oral and written communication skills, with an ability to convey complex strategic ideas and proposals to a wide range of audiences in a structured and logical way, through both written and verbal forms.
  • Comfortable working in a matrix organisation with multiple stakeholders to facilitate cross functional teams which operate collaboratively and innovatively
  • Ability to challenge entrenched thinking in a constructive manner; a willingness and openness to receiving similar challenge.
  • Ability to lead and coach a team to allow them to meet their full potential.
  • Proven track record of representing National Grid externally amongst senior stakeholders and external experts

What you'll get

  • Salary of £75,000 - £85,000 dependent on experience
  • Full electric company car or cash alternative
  • Annual Performance Based Bonus up to 20% of your base salary
  • 28 days annual leave plus eight statutory days, and the option to buy additional or sell holiday days
  • Generous contributory pension scheme – we will double-match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%
  • Private medical insurance for you and the chance to purchase cover for your partner or family
  • Financial support to help cover the cost of professional membership subscriptions, course fees, books, exam fees and time off for study leave – so long as it’s relevant to your role
  • Access to several flexible benefits such as a share incentive plan, salary sacrifice car and technology schemes, support via employee assistance lines and matched charity giving to name a few
  • Family care benefits including a back-up care service for when your usual care arrangements fall through (six paid days each year as standard with the option to purchase further days)
  • Access to numerous apps which support health, fitness and wellbeing
