CONSERVATION AND DESIGN OFFICER
(Development Management)
Salary: Grade 9 (SCP 27-33) £35,745 - £38,223 per annum
The appointment is subject to a £2,000 Welcome Payment.
The payment will be made in two instalments (50% upon commencement in post and 50% after the completion of a successful 6 month probation period). A two year retention clause is applicable to the payment. The payment is not available to employees who already work for the Council.
Hours of work are 37 per week
Become the District Council’s Conservation and Design Officer and provide professional conservation and design advice to the Development Management section and other Departments of the Council on matters involving the historic environment and design.
The District contains some of the most diverse and scenically beautiful areas in Britain. You will be responsible for the care, protection and enhancement of the high quality historic built environment of the Derbyshire Dales, which includes over 1325 listed buildings, 33 designated conservation areas, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, archaeological sites and monuments and historic parks and gardens which make it one of the best places in Britain to live, work and visit.
The successful candidate will be qualified in planning or architectural history and preferably be a holder of a post graduate qualification in urban design or building conservation. They will need to have excellent communication and negotiation skills and the ability to contribute to a high-quality service to our customers. We would also expect the successful candidate to have had at least 3 years’ experience working in the historic environment and to have developed extensive knowledge of conservation and historic building law, practice and procedures.
