A replacement position for a foot and ankle surgeon in a friendly cohesive DGH. The successful applicant will join a department of 13 Orthopaedic surgeons including 1 other foot and ankle surgeon. They will be expected to take on the work of the previous surgeon, who specialises in complex foot and ankle elective and trauma work and to liaise with the highly experienced MDT that work closely with them. The successful applicant will need to have a specialist interest in diabetic foot surgery.
They will be undertake a 1 in 8 weekday on call and a 1 in13 weekend on call on the general on call rota. The department is very proactive in regional registrar training and the post holder will be expected to participate in this.
The post holder will be expected to contribute to the departmental programmes for education and training as well as the clinical governance process within the Department and the Trust.
To provide, along with consultant colleagues, a comprehensive Orthopaedic and trauma service for the patients of Bolton.
The appointee will share duties on the on-call rota on a 1 in 8 basis with the other consultants for the care of emergencies and in-patients. 1 in 13 weekends.
The job will entail regular ward rounds as well as active involvement in teaching junior staff. There will be a certain amount of administrative work and medical audit work.
The Royal Bolton Hospital has been developed as the district general hospital for the area and serves a catchment population of 320,000 which includes the Bolton Metropolitan Borough as well as parts of Atherton, Leigh and Walkden. The hospital has all the specialties found in a large acute district general hospital, namely A&E, Acute and Elderly Medicine, surgery, Orthopaedics, pathology, radiology, Ophthalmology, ENT, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatrics, and Dermatology.
We have recently opened our new Elective Care Centre which contains 2 dedicated orthopaedic theatres with laminar flow air systems as well as a further 2 theatres with laminar flow in our existing building for trauma surgery.
You will be part of a consultant on call rota and when on-call will be expected to run an emergency orthopaedic service required of a level-two trauma centre performing all common trauma operations. Sub-specialist support from colleagues will be available for specialist fractures outside of your field (eg THR for #NOF).
The post holder will be expected to complement the foot and ankle orthopaedic services offered by the Trust and provide the highest quality care to the local population. This should include all aspects of elective foot and ankle surgery including the surgical management of complex foot and ankle fractures as well as diabetic foot surgery. Submission and scrutiny of the last 12 months' surgical logbook of prospective candidates would form an integral part of the shortlisting and interview process. The post holder will be supported by their own SAS/Reg grade doctor.
