Job description

Our trust has around 10,000 staff serving 1.6 million patients. It comprises Barnet Hospital, Chase Farm Hospital, the Royal Free Hospital and more than 30 services in the community. This larger scale organisation provides an unprecedented opportunity for us to continue our pioneering work, particularly in finding ways to deliver even better care to our patients.

Our mission is to deliver world class care and expertise in our clinical services, underpinned by world class teaching and research and we will continue to measure our progress against our five governing objectives: excellent outcomes, excellent patient and staff experience, excellent value for taxpayers’ money, being safe and meeting our external duties, and building a strong organisation.

Everyone is welcome at Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust. We're proud of our diversity and we continue to undertake new initiatives to advance equality for LGBT+, BME, gender equality, staff carers and people with disabilities and lived experiences to promote good relations and understanding between our staff.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will be required to work as a Renal Transplant surgeon, including minimal access live donor surgery, and preferably be involved in other sub-specialist areas that will complement the interests of the department

The post holder may be offered the opportunity to work as a specialist surgeon in Multi-Organ Retrieval, should that reflect their interests.

Duties require flexibility in job plan arrangements to ensure continuity of services with leave of other staff. Operating lists and occasionally clinics will need to be covered outside the specified job plan to ensure live donor transplants and Vascular Access lists proceed when the designated surgeon is away. This is to ensure targets in these priority areas are met. These arrangements will be agreed in advance to prioritise activity during absences of other staff.

The post-holder will be expected to contribute to teaching, including undergraduate teaching, and the teaching and professional development of junior medical staff.

The post-holder will be expected to share in the administrative responsibilities of the departments and participate in the R & D programmes of the department.

The appointee will work with existing consultants and colleagues in management to meet current NHS targets for waiting times and quality.

Please see attached job description for more information about this role and working at Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust.
