Continuous Improvement Process Chemist

GSK are recruiting for a Continuous Improvement Process Chemist to join them at their site in Irvine on a full-time and permanent basis.

There are some remote working flexibility options for this role when work permits.

As the CI Process Chemist, you will work with the continuous improvement team working on projects to improve efficiency of products and processes as well with sustainability in line with the site clear 2030 strategy.

You will have the opportunity to propose new CI opportunities and help implement these to support safe, complaint and competitive antibiotic manufacture today and into the future.

Job Purpose

To conduct technical investigations and provide technical solutions to drive continuous improvement of the Irvine manufacturing processes. The CI Process Chemist will undertake laboratory work and ongoing process analysis to identify improvements with the existing Clavulanate process as well as assessing new technologies & processing strategies for future step change improvements.

In this role you will…

  • Identify and carry out optimisation programs to improve performance with respect to yield efficiency, cost of production, safety and technical governance e.g. lab investigation, operation of membrane or extraction pilot plants.
  • Support operations in the monitoring of the manufacturing process to identify any issues and optimize where appropriate.
  • Liaise with Operations and Technical Support team with regard to problems experienced in manufacture – provide technical insight to root cause investigations
  • Conduct literature based assessment of modern and up-and-coming technologies to identify solutions to energy / raw material consumption and capacity challenges. Evaluate potential opportunities and prepare business cases for delivery to key stakeholders
  • Participate in assessment of raw material suppliers and utilisation to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Liaise with off site technical support, for example BPS Worthing or Stevenage R & D, and potential vendors to provide technical information, relevant insight and solutions
  • To plan, organise and manage analytical programme and equipment.

Why you?

Basic Qualifications/Experience:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • Degree or equivalent in a relevant scientific discipline or evidence of similar scientific training.
  • At least two years practical experience in a range of analytical techniques such as HPLC, GC and MS suitable for the analysis of biological & chemical processes and waste streams.
  • Relevant experience in their technical discipline in a chemical, biotechnology, or pharmaceutical industry.

Preferred Qualifications/Experience:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:

  • Production support knowledge and experience
  • Strong background in Analysis Techniques applicable to Chemistry, Biochemistry or related discipline
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills
  • Experience of generating technical reports and proposals
