Job title: Control Room Operator
Location: Dartford - DA1
Inside IR35
Contract length: 6 Months (could go Permanent)
Shift Pattern: 12 hour shifts - 4 on/4 off
(Day 1 & 2 will be 6am - 6pm, day 3 & 4 will be 6pm - 6am followed by 4 days
off.)


Balfour Beatty, a leading infrastructure group, are currently recruiting for 2 x Control
Room Operators. This role is on a 4 on/ 4 off shift pattern, Day 1 and 2 will be 6am
- 6pm, day 3 and 4 will be 6pm - 6am followed by 4 days off.


The successful Control Room Operators will join the team in the office in Dartford.
You must have a Full clean driving license, and your own vehicle for this position as
you will need to drive to and from the office and on occasion may have to commute
to local offices where cover is required. Experience within a Control room or similar
environment is essential, analysing CCTV footage and responding to High level
security/ emergency requests is also desirable.


Responsibilities of the Control Room Operators:

  • Support and direct the activities of primary and secondary response in coordinating the deployment of appropriate resources to successfully resolve incidents in compliance with company policy and contractual requirements.
  • Accurately receive and disseminate information to optimise safety an maximise efficient response and resolution of incidents.
  • Ensure that CCTV, tunnel, and bridge safety systems are monitored and that an appropriate response is taken to alarms.
  • Ensure accurate recording of network occupancy through use of bespoke databases.
  • Ensure that relevant colleagues and stakeholders are updated of critical incidents via escalation platforms.
  • Comply with Company policies and procedures as detailed in operational plans and HR standards.
  • Work to agreed business performance and training and quality standards.
  • Build strong, effective working relationships with stakeholders and partners including real time liaison with the HE Regional Operations Centers, NTIC and NILO.
  • Actively promote and support training for new employees via support and mentoring as required.
  • Receive and disseminate weather decisions in accordance with the Severe Weather Plan

Key Skills / Experience Required for the Control Room Operators:

  • Experience of working in an operational Control Room, preferably in an emergency services or National Highways environment.
  • Experience of working in an environment involving the time-critical deployment of resources.
  • Experience of working in a performance driven environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Aptitude for effective problem solving, using information to consider options and outcomes
  • Ability to operate and interrogate several database systems simultaneously to a high level of competence.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the commercial implications of operational decisions.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure, prioritising the response to multiple events.
  • Experience of incident management, escalation processes and terminology.
  • Experience of transport and road network environments.
