Product Improvement Engineer
Salary: £53,000 - £60,000 (depending on experience)
Location : Peterborough - requirement to be on site for 3 days per week.

Up to 10% bonus
Contributory pension scheme - Caterpillar will double the employee's contribution Up to 10%
Contributory share scheme - Caterpillar will match 50% of the employee's contribution.

Job Summary
Working within the Engine Systems Team, you will have accountability for the identification and resolution of product problems and issues on diesel engine Control Systems and associate electrical / electronic components. Using 6 Sigma methodologies and tools, you will form, participate and lead Teams of functional experts to develop, validate and implement Product Improvements and enhancements across both the hardware and software used within the Engine Electronic Control System
What You Will Do:
The successful candidate will have an excellent opportunity to lead cross functional, global Teams in the delivery of complex Electrical, Electronic and Control SystemsProduct Improvement projects on Diesel Engines, that ultimately support our client and customer’s business needs.. The role has significant accountability for the end-to-end delivery of hardware and software improvements and enhancements, right from issue identification through to solution implementation.
Typical project activities will include:
Conducting reliability and statistical analysis of current products
Monitoring performance against targets and identifying improvement opportunities
Prioritising of issues and projects
Forming high performing Teams and leading the Teams to implement robust solutions on complex Product Improvement projects
Supporting Caterpillar assembly facilities and addressing quality issues affecting production and internal customers
What You Have:
Strong technical background and demonstrable experience in leading cross functional Teams in delivering robust engineering solutions to Product issues. Top candidates will have a good technical degree in mechanical, electronic, electrical, Control Systems or automotive engineering.
Strong statistical and analytical analysis skills.
Proven 6 Sigma DMAIC experience, with top candidates having Black Belt leadership skills and competencies.
Prior experience in an Engineering role, ideally in component development and system integration onto modern engines, machines and vehicles. Top candidates will have proven Team leadership capabilities.
The ability to plan, prioritise and organise, thus facilitating the successfully management and execution of a number of projects at one time.
Effective Communication skills: understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.
Teamwork: Knowledge of the necessity and value of teamwork; the ability to work cooperatively towards shared goals and being supportive of others at all levels. Top candidates will have demonstratable knowledge and experience in coaching and mentoring of junior engineers.
