We have an exciting opportunity to join our finance team in Frating on a permanent basis as a Cost Assistant (internally known as Cost Accountant).

 

Reporting into one of the Senior Cost Accountants, this role will manage the end-to-end costing function for a commercial publishing division of one of the Penguin Random House Group Companies.

 

Liaising with internal and external stakeholders, this role will ensure integrity of our costing approach, and provide immediate visibility to any exceptions in terms of abnormal costs or costing activity.

 

As a Cost Accountant you will be responsible for maintaining a framework of accounting controls to enable the department to be operated in an efficient and effective manner, safeguarding assets and minimising liabilities.

 

You will ensure that the financial information within The Penguin Random House Group is accurate and reflects the true position of the company at any one point in time.

 

Role responsibilities:

 

  • Check daily interface errors
  • Investigate, resolve, and communicate discrepancies
  • To establish and maintain a regular and formal review of Work in Progress Variances with Production and commercial finance teams in London
  • Run reports in SAP to determine WIP variances for books printed
  • Prepare variance schedules downloading reports in SAP to excel templates
  • Post journals to transfer costs as required
  • Arrange meetings with the team in London to agree and finalise variances
  • Process agreed finalised variances to the profit & loss accounts
  • Reconcile stock quantities for stock held in Frating and other offsite warehouses
  • Post stock adjustments
  • Balance sheet reconciliations
  • Post monthly journals
  • Run and reconcile monthly reports in SAP to the general ledger

What you’ll bring:

 

  • Experience in reconciliations and variance analysis
  • Attention to detail skills
  • Experience in Excel
  • Experience of SAP is an advantage

We are looking for an individual with good organisational skills who is able to manage their own workload and meet deadlines. You will be a self-starter who is able to identity and look into any unusual costs in the division.

This role is an opportunity to develop your skills and is a great way to get into accounting, we offer a range of accounting courses, such as ACCA, that are fully funded. More information about these courses can be discussed at interview stage.

 

Please note, internally this role will known as a Cost Accountant.

Salary: up to £24,000 depending on how your skills and experience align to the role
