Job description

Location: Multiple Campuses Closing Date: 23.59 hours GMT on Monday 22 January 2024 Birmingham City University is a large and diverse place to study right in the heart of the city. The Directorate of Student and Academic Services are currently recruiting to the role of Course Advisor, to join our newly established Faculty Student Centres. The role will suit an experienced administrator, with experience in accurate record management and keen eye for detail.  Reporting to Course Cluster Team Leaders, the role will work with colleagues in the Faculty Student Centres, the Directorate, wider University services, academics, and students to provide a consistent and accurate service. As well as providing support in course, module and student record maintenance and review, the successful candidate will also support our Faculty Student Centres in offering a welcoming presence for students. Working collaboratively with other roles, they will support our Welcome Desk on a rotational basis, triaging student and staff queries to offer a "right first time" service. Main Duties and Responsibilities: Undertake key aspects of student administration, including but not limited to: enrolment, course maintenance, non-regulated placements, change of circumstance, module registration, module selection, coursework submission and general enquiry handling. Undertake student and course administration where this specifically relates to course structure and/or requirements of a professional, statutory, or regulated body for example, student placement. Be a subject matter expert for course administration processes and provide detailed advice for academics, other colleagues, and students. Maintain accurate student records, utilising a range of systems including SITS. Develop and maintain a good understanding of University Regulations, policies and procedures related to course administration, course specifications and statutory monitoring and reporting requirements. Ensure that administrative processes are compliant, advising students and colleagues as necessary. Maintain a calendar of the annual cycle for course administration and share this across the Faculty, partner institutions and other key collaborators as appropriate. Provide full administrative support to Exam Boards including liaising with External Examiners Skills and Experience: A high level of literacy and numeracy. Excellent IT skills including advanced knowledge of web-based solution, word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software packages, preferably Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Experience of providing high quality customer service in a complex environment. Experience of maintaining student or other complex records accurately Experience of working successfully as part of a team. Ability to understand and explain complex regulations to students and colleagues. Ability to manage own time and workload. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to support, guide and inform as necessary.
