About Mindfully Wired Communications (MWC)

MWC is a vibrant and unique communications consultancy working on environmental issues and campaigns through bold, values-led communication. Within the environmental sector, we have a specialism in ocean-themed topics, working broadly across issues such as marine governance and protection, seafood marketing and the blue economy, and coastal communities.

Over the past eight years, we’ve grown from one to twenty-two staff, doing work we care about to award-winning standards. As a team of scientists, linguists, event pros, policy buffs, and creatives, we use our broad experience and personal values to tell a new story of sustainability.

The role

We’re looking for our next rising star with this new and exciting internship in our Creative & Marketing team! This opportunity is perfect for an enthusiastic and hard-working person who’s keen to craft their career in communications and develop in a fast-paced environment.

Our Creative & Marketing team is one of three teams at MWC, and is the place where concepts are imagined, campaigns are designed, websites are created, and copy is crafted. The team’s portfolio is ever-changing, but includes a range of topics in the environmental sphere, from fishing and seafood marketing initiatives to projects on ocean health, coastal communities, plastic pollution, wildlife and seabirds. We’re on the hunt for someone who can apply their copywriting and design skills to a wide range of projects, whilst learning more about marine-based issues and the creative and marketing sector.

You will be assisting Officers in the Creative team with the execution of social media and communications strategies, supporting the drafting and copyediting of communications materials, and helping to provide creative ideas for various clients and projects. You will also have administrative duties in developing and implementing these strategies, as well as maintaining social media accounts and website content.

Through this role, you will gain valuable experience in quality comms practices, and learn how to distil insightful information and cutting-edge research into accessible and engaging outputs. Previous interns have since become Comms Officers and Managers. All our work not only supports our clients’ goals, but helps to conserve the marine environment while supporting the people that depend upon its resources. In this role, no two days are the same.

You will be responsible for:

  • Creating written content for social media by using project briefs and existing information to distil the crucial messages into impactful content
  • Designing social media graphics to accompany supporting copy, either by crafting original graphics or by sourcing high-quality relevant imagery
  • Researching topics either for social media and blogs, or more in-depth research to assist with new business quotes
  • Spearheading the production of MWC-owned social media by researching trends, planning a schedule of posts, writing copy and capturing footage.
  • Scheduling social media content, managing social media accounts, responding to comments, monitoring engagements, capturing analytics data and reporting on performance
  • Staying up to date with the latest social media and digital marketing trends, and communicating these trends across the team
  • Assisting the team with copywriting across a range of topics, tones and styles, from website content to newsletters, press liaison, brochures and more
  • Proofreading of website copy, reports, blog posts, and social media content
  • Uploading content into websites (Wordpress training can be provided)
  • Attending meetings and conferences as required
  • Various other tasks that support the Creative & Marketing team

You will need:

  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills, and experience writing different forms of copy
  • A proven interest in the environment and sustainability issues, and a love for our planet
  • Ability to handle several projects at once with excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently - you’ll be a motivated self-starter, but someone who also thrives as part of a team
  • Experience using social media platforms (inc. Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn) and an understanding of the different tones and audiences that come with each
  • A genuine passion for staying up to date on the latest social media trends and enthusiasm for keeping your finger on the pulse of social media and marketing updates
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office and an ability to work in a professional shared workspace such as Google
  • Genuine interest in working with diverse stakeholder groups to support marine conservation goals

We’d love it if you also have:

  • Experience with Wordpress, working in CMS systems, and working with developers to build bespoke websites
  • Graphic design skills, with knowledge and experience of Canva or Adobe Suite
  • Film-editing experience or knowledge of video editing software such as Premier Pro, After Effects, or iMovie
