Jackson Hogg are delighted to have partnered up with a leading manufacturer in Redcar who are recruiting for a Customs Specialist to join their team on a full time, permanent basis. This role will ensure that our client meets the requirements of HMRC and other relevant bodies in a timely manner.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for budget planning and tracking in the assigned area
- Managing, processing and completing all legal aspects of customs clearance and transportation, incl. all legal regulations.
- Responsible for updating the customs tariff numbers in the ERP system e.g. GTS or government systems.
- Responsible for carrying out preference calculations for materials in the system.
- Updating long-term service agreements for customers and suppliers in coordination with Sales and Purchasing.
- Acting as the point of contact for service providers and customs agents in relation to the customs duties/clearance required each day (number/amount).
- Responsible for monitoring, checking and tracking existing and updated certificates of origin from suppliers.
- Responsible for checking customs papers and customs clearance as per the legal regulations.
- Performing the customs clearance for both regular and special shipments (e.g. tools, machinery, spare parts).
- Responsible for training the Logistics team in how to comply with the legal framework governing customs controls.
- Acting as the point of contact for all departments for any matters relating to customs and import/export-related management.
- Leading the process for implementing tax reduction strategies.
- Helping to achieve the company's targets and reduce costs by initiating, analysing and carrying out projects that create value.
- Checking international freight costs and local registration fees, as well as payment management
The Role:
- Monday to Thursday 8am to 4:30pm, Friday 8am to 1pm - 37.5 hours a week

About You:
- Previous experience in a Customs Compliance role
- Excellent knowledge on current customs procedures and processes
- Excellent knowledge on both import and export procedures
- Ability to commute to Redcar
- Ability to work alone and as part of a team
- Excellent attention to detail
- Ability to work towards deadlines and meet targets
