This role requires employees to complete an online Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS), including The Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) checks for criminal convictions.

The Role

Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to make a difference? Join our team and contribute to the future of fusion energy. As a Cyber Security Technician Apprentice, you will play a pivotal role within the Information & Cyber Security Group. The primary role of a Cyber Security Technician is to provide first line Cyber Security support. 

This apprenticeship gives you the opportunity to implement a series of technical, procedural and physical controls to monitor, detect and respond to a wide range of Cyber Security threats and maintain business continuity. You will learn about cyber risk and mitigation with a focus on maintaining the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of digital data. You will develop your skills and use your experiences to feed into policy decisions of a Cyber Security awareness culture within the business.

In this role you will be encouraged to work in a variety of environments, learning new skills with support from a wealth of experienced Engineers, Analysts, Technicians and Specialists. You will receive a thorough understanding of current and future technologies, threat analysis techniques and controls used to mitigate or remediate Cyber Security risks under the supervision of the Information & Cyber Security Analysts in the Group and other managers in the Division. You will undertake a variety of tasks, including but not limited to:

  • Performing Cyber Security compliance checks
  • Monitoring the effectiveness of Cyber Security awareness 
  • Processing Cyber Security IT Service Desk requests ensuring confidentiality, integrity, and availability of digital information.
  • Supporting secure and uninterrupted business operations through the implementation of Cyber Security mechanisms 

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Complete national academic qualification as defined by the apprenticeship training standard: Cyber Security Technician / Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education
  • Attend designated training provider, develop and attain a good knowledge of procurement skills.
  • Represent the UKAEA Organisation and attend external outreach and careers events.

Qualifications

Essential Requirements:

  • 5 GCSEs grade 9-4 (A*-C), including Maths and English (or BSL for those whose primary language is BSL)
  • Self-motivated and unafraid to use their initiative.
  • IT literate and fluent in MS Office
