We are looking for a data analyst /researcher with database skills to join the LRD. The successful candidate will be responsible for producing reports, features and analysis of data of use to trade unions. Their particular focus will be on pay and conditions data held in our in-house database of collective agreements called Payline, but they will also be expected to play a wider role in managing, processing and presenting data for the organisation, as required. The work will include undertaking occasional research commissions from union clients, working with and advising other research staff, using data from Payline and other sources (including from government and other external sources) and writing data-focused reports (including for LRD publications).

LRD Payline

Data for Payline is collected regularly from workplace contacts and union officials and published online to subscribers. Launched in the 1990s, it was the first database of its kind in the UK to monitor the impact of Collective Bargaining and is still the only one to do so from a cross-union perspective.

A key responsibility for the successful candidate will be to work alongside others to modernise and improve Payline, which is currently Access-based, harnessing the latest technologies available to ensure that it remains the best possible source of information on pay and conditions for union representatives and officers at all levels.

This role will suit someone keen to take a pro-active and creative approach to co-ordinating the development process, who can quickly get to grips with how its complex data is structured, come up with innovative ideas on how to streamline and automate key functions and workflows, liaise with internal and external experts and take decisions with the specific needs of our end users in mind.
