Location: Polaris House, Swindon (Extremely flexible hybrid working available - you will be working mostly from home with occasional travel to the office for meetings, roughly once a month)

The UKRI Data Engineer role is responsible for extracting, transforming, and loading data within a data warehouse solution, in line with the requirements agreed with the business. The role will provide and manage data and information to enhance decision making. The role will deliver service excellence to the customers and continually look to improve and develop service capabilities. The role will be responsible for developing new and amending existing data products and services within agile and waterfall delivery methodologies. The role will support projects and collaborate with design and testing teams to ensure that all development work has been completed as per the technical specifications and meets the business requirements.
Job description
- Develop, maintain and support of ETL routines managed in a cloud-based environment.
- Development and testing of code within the data infrastructure environment.
- Ensure that appropriate data quality, integrity and alerting is built into all solutions.
- Work in an Agile Kanban environment and assist with managing the DevOps processes for Data, and any tooling that guides the processes.
- Collaborate with business subject matter experts to understand the organization’s essential data requirements and to understand the organization’s data assets.
- Understand the data flows.
- Assessment and evaluation of any proposed data/system changes that might impact data performance, models or reports and recommend amendments if required.
Person specification
Essential
- Extensive ETL/ELT development project experience including the designing, developing, and building of pipelines.
- Knowledge of MySQL and SQL Server databases with the ability to query multiple databases.
- Knowledge of Cloud based platforms.
- Ability in report design, development, and testing.
- Experience of relational database design, including physical, canonical, and logical design.
- Ability to work to industry standard Data warehousing principles and data design.
- Ability to develop and deliver end-to-end data warehouse solutions, either as part of an overall team or working under your own supervision
- Knowledge of varied software development tools, methods, and technologies.
