Job Purpose:
The highly competitive US generic pharmaceutical sector continues to challenge every element of the supply chain. In this constantly changing environment, patients can be served through multiple channels in new & different ways, whilst those that dispense prescriptions, the wholesale distributors that supply them and manufacturers all have to react and respond to how the sector is evolving, which is also heavily influenced by payers, regulatory bodies and federal & state law. To succeed in this environment requires organisations to adapt and change and, at ClarusONE, we play a key role in working alongside multiple stakeholders to deliver the most efficient supply chain model whilst generating value for our Members, their customers and patients through innovative sourcing solutions.
The Data Engineer is primarily responsible for data pipeline creation, design and maintenance in support of all business functions across ClarusONE. The capability this role brings will allow ClarusONE to execute data ingestion and transformation quickly, accurately and efficiently; enabling analytical insights from data to support a wide range of strategic and operational business decision processes. In turn this will drive business growth, optimising processes and supporting automation though the use of appropriate data/information.
The Data Engineer will be part of the Data Engineering team, who build and maintain our data infrastructure. Working in a modern data warehousing landscape this position is responsible for monitoring & supporting our production environment; and building & testing new data pipelines. They will work within the data governance framework at ClarusONE ensuring that sensitive data is properly protected.
This role will work closely with our customers in the analytics team and across ClarusONE to provide data expertise and support the ongoing demand for new or enhanced data sets; and making data science and machine learning processes stable and repeatable.
Responsibilities:
- Work across the development lifecycle from prototyping, to delivering production data solutions to resolving data issues with the business users
- Execute the development of data ingestion and transformation pipelines using multiple technologies (SQL, Snowflake, python, DBT / Astronomer, APIs etc); leveraging agile methodologies
- Support strategic initiatives; design, build and support data solutions conducive to business insights, reporting and analytics
- Applying Data Engineering best practice and tools to create and maintain data pipelines and extract, transform and load data.
- Applying the good coding standards and principles including logging and unit testing to the pipelines created.
- Supporting the production data warehouse, communicating issues promptly to stakeholders and working to address them
- Present and defend complex ideas and recommendation to various level in the organisation
- Collaborate with all team members to problem solve and create solutions
- Be an advocate and champion of the ClarusONE data and information assets
- Maintain SOX compliant documentation and support all SOX related activities and audit
- Recommend process changes to achieve minimal error rates. Track errors and improve process efficiencies

Requirements:
Education/Experience
- Bachelor’s degree level or above
- 3+ years’ experience in a data centric function
- Experience in the healthcare field, preferably in generic pharmaceuticals (sales, purchasing or distribution) preferred, though not required.
Knowledge/Skills - Essential
- Experience of building data ingestion and transformation pipelines
- Experience working within a structured development and release environment (e.g. peer review, coding standards, CI/CD release processes)
- Experience of testing in a data context
- Strong SQL skills
- Experience with python
- Experience with database technologies and concepts (Snowflake or other cloud based data warehouses an advantage)
- Proven written and verbal communication skills, and attention to detail
- 3 years experience in a data-centric function
- Willingness to develop new technical skills and become an SME for new technologies adopted by the business
- Enthusiasm for the data analytics landscape and continued focus on how the market is accelerating
Knowledge/Skills - Desirable
- Experience of data transformation in dbt would be highly desirable
- Experience using airflow would be highly desirable
- Data warehousing experience (e.g. Kimball / Inmon approaches)
- Experience with conforming data from multiple data sources
- Experience of data design / modelling and analysing data requirements
- Experience of working with RESTful APIs
- Experience working with third party vendors to deliver data focused solutions
- Knowledge of retail pharmaceutical products and program offerings a plus.
