Job description

Why apply for this role? Children’s Hearings Scotland (CHS) is undergoing an exciting period of reform designed to make a step change in improving the outcomes for infants, children and young people who need us most. We’re looking for someone who has experience working with both quantitative and qualitative data, including working with surveys and research, and can provide high-quality data and evidence services to inform a wide -range of CHS’s work. Our Data & Evidence Officer will bring strong analytical ability combined with a supportive approach to not only produce and interpret data and evidence, but enable others to do the same.   You’ll need to have a keen eye for detail and be comfortable navigating and interpreting data and evidence to identify patterns and themes to ‘tell stories’ through the data.  Data & Evidence at CHS Our data and evidence function sits within a small, focussed team at CHS. As a team, we provide a range of services, structures and support to the organisation concentrating on aspects of information, assurance and performance.  The need to ensure that the work of CHS as a public body is well-informed, appropriately documented and delivered in a way that is legislatively compliant is forefront for us as we deliver our work and support and advise our colleagues.  CHS is at the start of a significant and exciting journey to improve the data and evidence that is available to us and how we use it. This role will support several current and developing data and evidence needs to support decision-making, projects, reporting and planning across the organisation.   Part of the role is to support colleagues – both staff and volunteer – to understand and make use of data and evidence in their work and decision-making. We also work with colleagues to help them identify their data needs and support them to find, access or collect the right sources of information, whether that is internal, such as surveys, or external, such as published research.  Building effective working relationships and gathering a strong understanding of the diverse activities within CHS are important building blocks to how we deliver our work.     Life at CHS Our 2,500 volunteer Panel Members take part in children’s hearings in their local areas, making decisions with and for infants, children and young people. Our organisation also supports a network of 9 regional areas which are made up of 400 volunteers who support Panel Members in their local communities. As an organisation that works within the children’s hearings system, we are passionate about making a positive contribution to improving outcomes for Scotland’s infants, children and young people. You can read more about our core values HERE as well as view an introductory video to our organisation. We also offer a generous benefits package from hybrid working, flexi hours and a fantastic pension scheme - you check out our full benefits summary HERE. How do I apply? For more details and to apply, please download the application pack from our website (via the ‘Apply’ button above), which includes a full job description and a person specification. Please note that CVs are not accepted.
