We’re Ocado Retail. We’re the people powering Ocado.com, the world’s largest online grocer, and Zoom by Ocado, our almost-as-fast-growing, same-day grocery service. As the world’s biggest and best online-only grocer, we work tirelessly to bring more of what matters to our customers: unbeatable range, fair value, and effortless convenience.
We’re an exceptional and mighty bunch of colleagues who are inspired by our three awesome values: Always be curious, Bring your best self, and Challenge what's possible.
We have ambitious plans and vision to never-stop making our customers' lives better, by delivering the supermarket of today, tomorrow.
About the Team
Data & Insight Team
We generate the best data imaginable - on every customer, at every touchpoint, at every point of the customer experience. We aim to turn that data into insights that can be seamlessly integrated into our business processes in order to continually improve our customer experience.
You
Are you constantly curious, happy working with diverse groups of stakeholders and always looking to challenge what’s possible? Are you passionate about how data can be used to fuel business results? Do you have an in-depth understanding of grocery retail data, and experience using your data analyst skills to drive excellence in data solutions that allow business users to liberate value from their data assets?
Purpose of the role
- You will work closely with the Data Governance Lead to help unlock the value of the Ocado Retail data asset.
- You will support data users and producers across the business in ensuring that our data solutions and processes adhere to the various privacy and security policies relevant to the protection of data.
- You will help develop frameworks to identify and define data quality issues and requirements, and help make the data asset easier to understand and to use in support of our business strategy.
- You will conduct both data analysis to understand the quality, consistency and referential integrity of our data, and business analysis to understand the processes that use that data and the data quality requirements they present. You will use this information to help identify the metrics and standards against which we measure and track the quality of our data.
- You will help administer and review Access Management in the GCP hosted data solution, ensuring that the right users have the right access to the right data at the right time.
- You will support business and insight teams in understanding the meaning and provenance of Ocado Retail’s data by ensuring the development and continued maintenance of business glossaries and data dictionaries, and through offering consultancy and guidance.
- You will help define Data Governance frameworks that enable the quality, security and usability of our data, work with business partners and technical teams to understand their requirements and play a key role in implementing solutions that allow us to exploit value from our data in a safe and ethical manner.
Desired experience and attributes
- A solid understanding of data: Minimum 3 years of experience with the management, oversight or analysis of complex data systems that process data about individuals and their behaviour. You should have knowledge of data modelling, integration and manipulation.
- Competent in SQL for data querying: Good experience with tools used in data manipulation and assessment, including SQL and MS Excel / Google Sheets.
- Proven and effective communication skills: Experience working with a variety of stakeholders to understand their requirements, in alerting them to data issues that might impact them, and help guide solutions that meet those requirements and any relevant policies or regulations. You can work with technical and non technical stakeholders to ensure that resolutions to issues work for all parties, and are able to identify where repeatable frameworks are preferential to one off solutions.
- An analytical mindset: The ability to break issues down into their component parts to understand their underlying cause, and to impact assess solutions to understand likely downstream impacts of design decisions.
- Experience in working with GCP: Google Cloud Platform is the primary cloud platform used by the Data & Insight team. A knowledge of tools, concepts and practices in access management, data quality management and Data Governance tooling in GCP would be beneficial.
