Job description

This is a unique and exciting opportunity to drive the oversight of key projects and governance engagement in the Home Office within a vibrant team at the heart of the Government’s data transformation. The Home Office Data & Identity Directorate is in the Home Office’s Science, Technology, Analysis & Research (STAR) Group and collaborates with partners to make the Department’s vision for data and adoption of data driven technologies a reality. Its role is to help transform how the Home Office and sector look after and use data and data driven technologies to meet Government’s strategic objectives build a Modern Civil Service and maintain the highest levels of public trust and confidence. This is a high-profile and pivotal post in the Home Office’s data and information landscape and offers a high-level of visibility with senior stakeholders from across the Department.

The Home Office is driving transformation to look after and use data and data driven technologies to improve public services whilst maintaining public trust and confidence. This unique and exciting opportunity for a Data Quality lead is focused on key strategic initiatives on improving the Home Office Data Quality Culture. This role will require a good understanding of data governance, management or someone with the ability to grasp the subject area quickly.

What will the successful candidate be doing?

This role will lead, priorities and drive Data Quality improvements across meet Home Office.

Important information

Successful candidates can start in post with SC clearance but may need to obtain DV clearance in due course.

Please note that you can be based in any Home Office location listed, however attendance to Marsham Street may be required.

We are seeking an experienced change professional or someone with the ability to learn the skills and apply the knowledge to work in this area to lead key strategic initiatives with a focus on improving the Data Quality management culture across the Department. This role will require good understanding of Data Governance and Data Management (or the ability to learn on the job), with a view to leveraging this knowledge to enhance Data Quality to enhance our operational efficiency and service delivery.

Key responsibilities

Data Quality Lead

  • Develop plans that align with the strategic objectives of the Home Office for an improved Data Quality Culture and in context of broader data and information transformation priorities.
  • Identify, influence, and supervise the progress on DQ initiatives across the Home Office engaging with businesses across the Department and its ALBs.
  • Drive awareness of through development and publication of Data Quality communication products.

Data Governance and Quality

  • Act as the central Home Office key advocate and leader for Data Quality aligning with the broader Home Office Information and Data Governance Framework.
  • Work with and leverage Home Office data governance, Data Quality, data management and analytics technical capabilities.
  • Work closely with data stakeholders to drive documentation of business and technical data standards and policies.
  • Work with technology teams to analyse and monitor Data Quality, identifying areas for improvement and driving initiatives to enhance data accuracy, timeliness, completeness, and consistency.

Stakeholder Management

  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, both internal and external.
  • Facilitate communication and collaboration across various departments and teams.
  • Present regular updates to senior leadership and other stakeholders on programme progress and performance. Be a credible proponent of business change through leading working groups.

Risk and Issue Management

  • Identify and supervise DQ risks and issues and related remediation proactively.
  • Identify and monitor DQ risks and issues impacting ministerial priorities.

Where business needs allow, some roles may be suitable for a combination of office and home-based working. This is a non-contractual arrangement where all employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in an office, subject to local estates capacity, by Spring 2024.
