Our routing and optimisation team help ensure we deliver industry leading products/services for our customers and delivery partners, whilst minimising our environmental impact.
As a Data Scientist in our Routing and Optimisation team, you will design and develop scalable, innovative algorithms for a variety of complex decision problems.
What you'll be doing:
- Use data science techniques in creative ways to impact meaningful decisioning for the business
- Work alongside the senior/lead Data Scientists to deliver high quality production level algorithm code
- Maintain and enhance our existing vehicle routing model to gain actionable business insights
- Develop, implement and test new modelling approaches
- Work with; Heuristic routing, price optimisation, clustering techniques, outlier detection modelling, k-means, linear, logistic and many more regression techniques
- Interact with a range of key stakeholders, to help identify, scope, plan and manage projects and ensure findings can be easily translatable to both technical and non-technical internal audiences
Skills and experience we think you'll need to be successful in the role:
- Strong academic background in Operations Research, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Machine Learning, or Statistics (or fields related to algorithms)
- Some experience and a passion for developing Optimisation or machine learning solutions in a fast paced environment
- Experience developing scalable algorithms to large scale combinatorial optimisation problems such as vehicle routing, scheduling and facilities location from scratch rather than packages like google-or-tools.
- Knowledge of mixed integer programming, decomposition techniques, meta heuristics, approximate algorithms, constraint programming, machine learning, deep learning
- Hands on experience in developing production-ready with some programming language (Python/Java/C++)
- Communication is key - you must have excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex problems simply to both technical and non-technical audiences
The below is advantageous but not essential- Hands on experience with Rust/golangprogramming languages
- Understanding of agile concepts and ability to work in agile teams
- Experience in logistics
