Role purpose

We are seeking a talented Database Developer to be responsible for the performance, design and resilience of the firm’s existing databases and related servers.

To assist in designing and configuring databases required to deliver new applications, systems and functionality together with reporting and data analysis to the firm. You will play a crucial role in designing, developing, and maintaining databases, as well as creating and delivering reports using SSRS (SQL Server Reporting Services) and SSIS (SQL Server Integration Services). This position offers an excellent opportunity for a motivated individual to leverage their skills in database development and reporting within a dynamic legal environment.

Key responsibilities

  • Collaborate with developers and legal professionals to understand business requirements and translate them into database solutions.
  • Design, develop, and maintain relational databases.
  • Write and optimize SQL queries, stored procedures, and functions to support data retrieval, manipulation, and reporting needs, utilising SSRS for report creation and delivery.
  • Develop and maintain ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes using SSIS to integrate data from various sources into our databases, ensuring data accuracy and consistency.
  • Create and customize reports using SSRS to meet the reporting needs of legal professionals and support staff, including case management, financial analysis, and regulatory compliance reporting.
  • Perform data analysis to identify trends, patterns, and insights that inform decision-making and drive business outcomes.
  • Collaborate with IT and legal professionals to troubleshoot database-related issues and provide timely resolution to minimize disruptions in legal operations.
  • Stay informed about emerging database technologies, reporting tools, and best practices relevant to the legal industry to continuously improve development processes and enhance system performance.
  • Support ongoing database maintenance tasks, such as backups, performance monitoring, and capacity planning, to ensure optimal system performance and reliability.

Person specification

  • Experience in creating and customising reports.
  • Familiarity in SQL, Power BI and relational database concepts.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Good communication and the ability to collaborate effectively with legal professionals and IT staff.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritise tasks effectively.

Technical knowledge

  • Experience with SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) and SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS).
