Further information
Whitethorns Intensive Day Service is looking for a female individual who is a confident, motivated, enthusiastic, and also a caring person to fill the role of Day Support Worker. You will work with individuals who are primarily on the Autistic spectrum and who can occasionally challenge the support that they receive. You will support individuals within groups and may lone work on a 1:1 basis but will primarily focus on a 2:1 staffed young lady, who is new to the service. You will work alongside and take instruction from the Manager and Day Service Officers at Whitethorns.
Working either within groups, on a 1:1 basis or with the 2:1 young lady, you will support individuals with their personal care and also to engage in a range of indoor and outdoor activities e.g. table top work, cookery, gardening, beach cleaning, swimming, community visits etc (These may take place during inclement weather) to achieve their agreed outcomes, which are essential for their wellbeing. Due to the physical demands of the service, you will be expected to have a reasonable level of fitness to safely support service users in their everyday activities.
Ideally, you will have some experience of supporting individuals with challenging behaviours as well as a knowledge of Autism, the principles of Active support and some knowledge of the Safeguarding Adults process. An understanding of positive behaviour support (PBS) would be an advantage; however, training will be provided.
An NVQ / QCF level 2 in care or a commitment to work towards this is essential, as is a good standard of education. There will be an expectation that you complete the All Wales Induction Framework (AWIF). You will receive regular supervision from the Manager and will be supported to undertake a range of training opportunities as well as contribute to the continuing development of the service.
You will also be required to work flexible hours, usually between 08.00am and 4.30pm including a 30-minute rest break if you go over 6 hours during your shift. Support will be required for 3 days between a Monday and a Friday - 7 hours per day. You will also be expected to work at other day services when required. You will require a good level of fitness to effectively support a young and energetic client group. Previous experience of driving an 8 seater minibus is desirable.
