Debt Adviser 

Rooted Finance (RF) is a registered London based debt advice and education charity operating in England. At the heart of RF’s philosophy is the prevention and cure of unmanageable debt.   

Our services include emergency debt support for over-indebted individuals, preventative advice to protect people from getting into Debt and smart money workshops to improve financial management skills.   

As the cost-of-living crisis continues to impact millions of people across the UK, we are looking for new team members to help us meet the growing demand for debt advice and support our clients improve their financial wellbeing. Our advisers help prevent homelessness, reduce food and fuel poverty and ensure clients are supported through vulnerable circumstances with empathy and dignity. 

What will you do? 

You will:  Deliver a professional, impartial, pragmatic and outcome focused advice service to all clients.  

Give advice on the following areas:  

• Income maximisation 
• Budgeting  
• Priority debts  
• Unsecured debts  
• Debt solutions  
• Identify client vulnerabilities and prioritise household emergencies.  
• Provide comprehensive advice, next steps and actions in a way that the client can easily understand.  
• Signpost or refer to the appropriate party at the earliest opportunity.  
• Maintain punctual, accurate and compliant records using our case management system. 
• Support Senior Advisor/Supervisor with duties and act as a deputy in AM absence  

How will you achieve this?  

We will provide you with training, which will allow you to meet the needs of your role and progress to specialist advisor standard.  

Continual Professional Development (CPD) is required and you will be supported to ensure that your knowledge and skills are up to date.  

Training will be ongoing and by a variety of methods including in-house, courses, webinars and e-learning. 

Is it you we’re looking for?  

To be considered for this role, you'll need: 

•  A MaPs Accredited Debt Advice Qualification to Caseworker Level (Institute of Money Advisers Certificate of Money Advice or Community Money Advice Level 3 Award in Debt Advice) or similar or a drive and motivation to complete such a qualification.  
• A proactive approach, with the ability to manage multiple cases on an ongoing basis,  
• Ability to independently manage own workload and delivering on project KPIs  
• Support junior and trainee members of the team through coaching and mentorship  
• The proven ability to build rapport and empathise with clients from a variety of circumstances. 
• The proven ability to deal calmly and professionally with difficult situations, e.g., Supporting clients at risk of imminent enforcement action, facing emotional distress and or suffering from mental health or physical health challenges  
• Consistent attention to detail and ability to adhere to necessary guidance and rules such as FCA, GDPR and all other organisational policies and legal obligation to ensure strict compliance  

Hours  

• 35 hours per week. Operating hours are 9am to 5.00pm, Monday to Friday.   
• Occasional evenings and weekends for events with time off in lieu applicable.  

What will you receive in return?   

• An annual salary of £29,500 - £32,500 (Dependent upon experience)  
• 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays.

• Hybrid/flexible working arrangements considered according to job role/demand.  Trainee/entry level posts will require FT in-person probation.
