Job Description

What you’ll do

We are seeking to recruit a Debt Recovery Specialist to join our successful Commercial Litigation team based in Exeter, but with the flexibility to work remotely for some of the week if desirable on either a full time or part time basis. No previous experience or legal experience is required as full training will be provided upon joining the firm.

In this role, you will be providing Debt Recovery support for both the firm and some of our major clients. Typically, your duties will include:

  • Working closely with the Firm's credit control team and Partners within the Commercial Litigation team to identify matters (for both the Firm and for clients of the Firm) where debts are to be pursued via the Debt Recovery process.
  • Sending pre-action correspondence to debtors (including Letters Before Action) and liaising with debtors and clients alike regarding progress made (a comprehensive precedent bank is available).
  • Where appropriate escalating matters to the issue of Court Proceedings in order to recover the debts.
  • Taking all steps within the Court action (e.g. drafting the Claim Form, collating relevant documentation and completing witness statements) (again a comprehensive precedent bank is available).
  • Overall responsibility (with appropriate supervision and guidance) from inception through to conclusion.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone looking for a new opportunity that will allow a good deal of flexibility and autonomy in your work.

Who you are

Ideally with experience working in a professional services environment in a secretarial or administrative function, you will have strong interpersonal and communication skills, being a positive and proactive team player and approach all given tasks with excellent organisational skills, enthusiasm and a willingness to learn. You will take pride in maintaining high standards of work, and seek to provide an outstanding level of service to colleagues and clients.

You will naturally be self-motivated and independent, and as a natural communicator, you will relish the opportunity to work with a wide range of both internal and external clients, whilst being a quick learner with strong IT skills.

Why join Team Ashfords?

Ask our people, and they will tell you that they genuinely enjoy coming to work and spending time with their colleagues. We’re confident that once you discover our open and friendly culture, it won’t take long for you to feel the same.

Importantly, we will give you the space and flexibility for your life outside work too.

Our goal? To help you realise your full potential as part of a forward-thinking team and business.

That’s what sets us apart.

Our offer

We offer a range of benefits to support you at work and at home.

This includes a flexible working framework giving you the freedom to mix home and office working, extra annual leave for your birthday and the option to buy more holiday.

We have a comprehensive package to support physical and mental health including onsite yoga classes and a gym at our head office, healthcare plans, an Employee Assistance programme and free access for you and up to five friends to the ‘Calm’ Mindfulness App.

You’ll also have the chance to get involved in our responsible business programme, including fundraising initiatives through the Ashfords Foundation and bringing your energy to our environment or diversity groups.
