Hays is looking for a Decontamination Manager to lead and manage the operational responsibility for our Clients Decontamination facility in Stockport.This is a full-time role for 37.5 hours a week. The job holder will be required to cover a flexible shift pattern.


Your new role


The Decontamination Manager will provide leadership, strategic direction and facilities management service to the Stockport decontamination facility, thus enabling the unit to deliver a high quality, efficient and cost-effective service to all its users. The Decontamination Manager will also develop the business, both internally and externally, in line with Company policies, building relationships and trust to become a supplier of first choice.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and support training initiatives for the operational team and ensure staff are recruited and developed to the agreed level of competence.
  • Ensure effective financial management and control of the unit, including budgeting costing and relevant reports.
  • Undertake performance data analysis and ensure excellent communication to all staff.
  • Participate in current and future project relating to the Stockport decontamination unit.
  • Ensure compliance with Company policies and legislative requirements to include, financial, Health & Safety, clinical, Infection Control and HR related issues.
  • Contribute and participate as an individual and representative of Company Decontamination in future development and roll out of the Company's strategy.
  • Drive and achieve the unit's financial and operative directives on an annual basis.
  • Monitor market changes, competitors and trends. Conduct ongoing benchmarking of marketplace including NHS practice and respond pro-actively to the associated challenges.
  • Keep excellent relations with key customer representatives, consultants and other associated clinical users.
  • Develop positive and pro-active relationships, in conjunction with business development, with external customers in the development of external business.
  • Set operational objectives to ensure that activity is delivered on time and to the agreed accredited standard and implement corrective action when deficiencies arise.
  • Develop and implement local and corporate management practices, which will enhance the unit's performance.
  • Meet reporting requirements of Company Decontamination, and customer needs, ensuring full compliance with reporting requirements, including monthly management reports.
  • Embrace and have responsibility for the unit's recruitment, development, motivation and retention of quality and committed staff.
  • Continually monitor and utilise methodologies to ensure the unit's staff engagement levels remain consistently high.
  • Set high personal and professional standards in line with Company policy.
  • Work with the Decontamination Director and other senior managers to ensure the smooth running of the Decontamination service.

What you'll need to succeed

  • A relevant qualification in decontamination or equivalent experience.
  • A proven track record of managing a decontamination unit or similar service.
  • A strong understanding of the regulatory and quality standards for decontamination, including HTM 01-01, ISO 13485 and BS EN 15883.
  • A sound knowledge of the clinical and operational aspects of decontamination, including equipment, instrumentation and flexible endoscopes.
  • A demonstrable ability to lead, motivate and develop a team of staff.
  • A high level of financial and commercial acumen, with experience of budgeting, costing and reporting.
  • A strategic and innovative thinker, with the ability to identify and implement improvements and new opportunities.
  • A customer-focused and collaborative approach, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
