The role
As a Defect Reports and Management Engineer, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. The Type 31 Project will deliver five general purpose adaptable, global, and exportable frigates to the Royal Navy designed to undertake a range of operational tasks from maritime security, humanitarian aid and disaster relief and defence engagement to operation in a high threat environment. The Project is the pathfinder and cornerstone of the National Shipbuilding Strategy and will be delivered in an innovative manner at pace with all 5 ships to be in-service by Dec 2028

Day to day, you'll develop and maintain the T31 DRACAS, producing Reports and recommendations in accordance with the CDRL or as required by T31 Head of Supportability, as well as:

• Liaise with T31 Supply Chain and Engineering to provide feedback to, or resolve issues with, Suppliers.
• Work closely with the Supply Support Lead and Principal Support Engineer to ensure that the impact of any significant defects or emergent trends may be fully understood in terms of overall Class and Platform Supportability.
• Contribute to the delivery of broader supportability outputs as defined in the T31 Design and Build contract and as directed by the Supportability and R&M Cases Lead or T31 Head of Supportability.
• Support Design Reviews, Logistic Demonstration and other Assurance and Acceptance events as required.

This role is full-time, and based at Bristol Business Park, Stoke Gifford, with a hybrid working arrangement of three days per week working from home. Please note, this role could also be based at Devonport Royal Dockyard, Plymouth, if preferred.

Essential experience of the Defect Reports and Management Engineer:

• Experience in ILS and understanding and awareness of Defect Reporting and Analysis procedures to support the maintenance of a capability.
• Ability to work in a complex, multi-discipline team.
• Strong written communication skills; the delivery of well structured, unambiguous technical documentation and reports.
• Strong verbal communication skills.
• Sound understanding of ship systems and equipment.

Qualifications for the Defect Reports and Management Engineer:

• Degree or HNC qualified in an engineering discipline (mechanical, marine, electrics/electronics or systems) or relevant experience at the discretion of the Warships Engineering Director / T31 Head of Supportability.
• Incorporated Engineer or working towards Incorporated status.

The successful candidate must be able to achieve SC security clearance for this role.
