Job Title:Deputy Financial Controller
Location: Farnborough or Malvern based

The role
As a Deputy Financial Controller you will be providing financial support and advice to UK Intelligence. This role will split its time between supporting the QinetiQ Limited business, and our subsidiary QinetiQ Training & Simulation Limited.
Day-to-day, you’ll:
Be responsible for ensuring that financial information within the business is of high quality, relevant, accurate and timely for decision making purposes.
Work closely with leaders to build forecasts\LBE\ISBP and budgets whilst also gathering qualitative narrative around risks and opportunities. Ensure forecasting models built or utilised are robust and accurate.
Be responsible for producing accurate management accounts (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash-flow, KPIs, Capex) in line with the financial accounting standards and the relevant accounting policies including variance analysis and value add commentary
Consolidation of relevant subsidiary monthly accounts, forecast/LBE and budgets to report an accurate and timely consolidated financial view into the relevant FC and MD including commentary on past performance and future outlook. – only if relevant
Addressing financial audit queries from external auditors and collating responses as appropriate from across the business in an efficient manner
Participate in the financial review of bids challenging cost assumptions, margins, cashflow, risk, position to win and ensuring appropriate governance is applied in conjunction with the relevant stakeholders
Participate in the financial review of Projects challenging EACs, Risk Registers, margins, milestones and cash-flow; resolving financial issues together with the Project Management Teams and reporting any material issues to the FC
Essential experience:
A broad and comprehensive understanding of both Finance and the Finance Function. You will need to understand other concepts & principles in context to resolve issues that have an impact on the business and drive a “no surprises” culture
The ability to learn and understand the business both from an internal delivery and external market/customer perspective to achieve the business goals.
Whilst not having direct management responsibilities, you must able to lead on activities, planning ahead appropriately in collaboration with other stakeholders, proactively build relationships across the Sector to ensure that the collective Sector objectives are achieved.
Strong analytical skills as well as evaluative judgement based on the analysis of factual information in complicated or novel situations with a need to refer to multiple sources of internal and external information.
The ability to filter, prioritise, analyse and validate potentially complex and dynamic material.
Qualifications:
Qualified accountant – ACA, ACCA, CIMA or CIPFA or qualified by significant experience
Experience in producing monthly, year end and forecasting information for a significant size business unit either by you or as part of a team
Strong Excel skills and experience in the use of Hyperion reporting software and SAP is an advantage
