About the Role

Leeds City College is a large successful FE college, currently Ofsted graded as Good.  An opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Deputy Head of Department for English and Maths to join our team. THis role will encompass the delivery of these subjects to our 16-18 and adult learners, based at our Printworks Campus, located in Leeds. 

 The successful candidate will lead on the development of outstanding teaching, learning and assessment in English and Maths, working closely with the Head ofEnglish and Maths and the TLA team and TLA Data team to drive the continuous improvement. They will be responsible for coordinating a team of Programme Managers/Course Leaders at Printworks to drive improvement of our English and Maths provision as well as outlining and resolving emerging operational priorities.  We are looking for someone to be an ambassador for English and Maths for the campus, who host events and represent the college both internally and externally.

What You Will Do

  • The successful post holder will drive the English and Maths strategy, supporting curriculum management and teams to improve TLA, progress and outcomes for learners. 
  • You will lead English and Maths across all departments at Printworks and have an agreed teaching contact timetable for one subject. 
  • You will gather and interpret quantitative and qualitative data to produce and present reports with supporting evidence to assess the impact of any activities at Printworks.
  • You will work with the Head ofEnglish and Maths and manage the internal and external quality assurance process procedures and act as an IQA as appropriate. 
  • Assist in the recruitment process for teaching posts when required and to support the effective induction, training and development needs of new staff. and be an active part of the Printworks Leadership team and be part of the connect duty rota.

About You

  • You will hold a Level 5 Teaching qualification, along with a Level 5 subject specialism in English or Maths. 
  • Relevant up to date subject knowledge and recent delivery in the Further Education or school sector.
  • Extensive experience, knowledge and skills to enable delivery of a range of levels across the curriculum, which demonstrates active learning and differentiated teaching styles.
  • Ability to lead activities in the development and delivery of strategies to improve retention, achievement, success and attendance rates for groups of learners
  • Experience of supervising/managing staff to ensure high performance
