Job description

With over 2,000 adult enrolments, the School of Adult Education, provides an excellent opportunity for the local community to access qualifications in ESOL, English, Maths and Digital Skills, and some distance learning. The School also provides a full time programme of study to a small number of young ESOL learners.
The School has an exciting opportunity for an experienced and innovative manager to join our high performing team. You will support the Head of School in leading, managing and coordinating the development and delivery of a high-quality, cost-effective curriculum, which ensures all learners achieve their goals and have positive progressions.
You will lead on all aspects of operational management and quality assurance within the School and be the key contact for any issues that may arise at the Wandsworth campus. An active participant in our College Management Team, you will be responsible for leading, developing and managing the ESOL, Functional Skills and GCSE core adult programmes, whilst managing, supporting and developing the Managers within the School to ensure consistency with quality assurance, improving our key KPI’s – achievement, attendance and punctuality rates.
We’d like our Deputy Head of School to hold a Level 4 qualification (as a minimum) in a relevant subject specialism (i.e. DTLLS) and have a successful and proven track record of curriculum development and student achievement. Your experience will include building and leading a team, using performance management techniques to achieve high quality outcomes, which means you have a good understanding of the FE sector and its administrative demands.
You will understand what outstanding teaching looks like, both as a teacher and an observer of TLA, and have experience as a Lead Internal Verifier and lead in Quality Assurance for your areas. You will be able to work with and manage budgets effectively and responsibly and have excellent interpersonal skills to deal with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
This role is to commence in January 2025.
Subject to a cost of living review from 1 August, the successful candidate will be eligible for any subsequent increase in salary.
Closing date for the return of completed applications is 8th July 2024
Interviews to be held on 17th July 2024
The benefits package includes generous annual leave of 37 days plus up to 8 additional days over Christmas/New Year as well as an additional 5 days Wellbeing leave to enhance employees’ physical and mental health. There is an excellent pension scheme that receives a significant financial contribution from the employer (Teachers Pensions or Local Government Pension Scheme), subsidised sports facilities and professional development and training plus a salary sacrifice cycle to work scheme.
As outlined in the Public Sector Equality Duty of the Equality Act 2010, we are committed to equality of opportunity for all staff and applications from individuals are encouraged regardless of age, disability, sex, gender reassignment, sexual orientation, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief and marriage and civil partnerships.
As part of our due diligence checks on prospective employees, successful candidates will be subject to an enhanced DBS check, satisfactory references, an online search and proof of eligibility to work in the UK.
The South Thames Colleges Group is made up of Carshalton College, Kingston College, Merton College and South Thames College, which merged on 1 August 2017. South Thames Colleges Group is one of London’s largest providers of post-16 education and training and is an ongoing and significant contributor to its local communities. We aim to put students’ success at the heart of everything we do.
We are looking for hard-working and collaborative people who can join our team and help challenge our students to progress and achieve.
When you click on ‘Apply’, you will be forwarded to the application page which sits on a platform hosted by an external partner called Blue Octopus who support STCG throughout the recruitment process.
