Job description

Founded by Royal Charter in 1967, the University of Stirling was the first new university in Scotland for more than 400 years.  The University has embraced its role as an innovative, intellectual and cultural institution with a pioneering spirit and a passion for excellence.  Launching in April 2024, the University’s new Strategic Plan builds on significant achievements to date and sets out a shared vision to 2030, with a focus on how Stirling will make a demonstrable impact on people’s lives. There are over 18,500 students studying with the University and over 140 nationalities represented across our picturesque central Scotland campus, voted 1st in the UK and top 3 in the world for campus environment (ISB 2022). The personal and academic growth of Stirling students is a strategic priority for the University, with a commitment to cultivating responsible and ready graduates, contributors, and global citizens. Our students love the way we teach, and the environment within which they learn on our beautiful campus. Our ability to offer an outstanding experience to our students is a central element of the University’s new strategy, and therefore we have created a new role, the Deputy Principal - Student Experience. This is a senior academic leadership role responsible for leading and driving ambitious and innovative approaches to the Student Experience. Reporting directly to the Principal and Vice Chancellor, and as a member of the executive team, the Deputy Principal - Student Experience will play a full part in shaping the overall strategic direction of the University. This role will be pivotal in shaping the Student Experience, fostering an inclusive, supportive, and enriching environment for our diverse student community. The successful postholder will possess extensive leadership experience in a senior academic role. Extensive knowledge of key factors impacting higher education in the UK and internationally will be highly advantageous. Evidenced understanding of the strategic issues influencing the Student Experience is required, including an exemplary grasp of Student Experience trends, policies, and best practice. Demonstrable experience of identifying, fostering, building and nurturing collaborative partnerships with a range of stakeholders will be key, as will outstanding communication and influencing skills. Saxton Bampfylde Ltd is acting as an employment agency advisor to the University of Stirling on this appointment. For further information about the role, including details about how to apply, please visit www.saxbam.com/appointments using reference WAMXH. Alternatively, telephone +44 (0)20 7227 0880 (during office hours). Applications should be received by noon on Thursday 9th May 2024.
