Design Engineer - Lisburn

Reporting To: Design Manager
Essential Criteria:
- At least 5 years of experience in a busy Product Design or Engineering Department.
- Experience in designing and managing products from concept through to full production.
- Thorough understanding of manufacturing processes, including plastics and metal fabrication.
- Strong conceptualisation, visualisation, and problem-solving skills.
- Highly organised with meticulous planning skills and attention to detail.
- Proficient in 3D CAD modeling, preferably SolidWorks.
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Office products, especially Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Role Summary:
To support the Design Manager in the design and development of innovative new products. Manage design programs to ensure all deliverables are met within agreed timescales and budgets until Design Freeze. Comply with Sunrise processes, including DCP, PDP, VaVe, and the Company’s Quality Management System, ISO 13485.
Main Responsibilities:
Support to Design Manager:
- Generate project timescales and plans to meet deliverables.
- Ensure design projects are on time and within budget.
- Support prototyping by providing accurate data to prototyping resources.
- Manage product testing.
- Manage your time to ensure maximum efficiency; highlight areas of concern early and identify where additional resources may be required.
- Ensure preparedness and attend product/project reviews as required by the Design Manager.
- Support product/project reviews with the Director of R&D as required.
- Ensure all products are thoroughly tested and meet regulatory requirements.
- Ensure the DHF is correct/complete regarding pre-design Freeze tasks/documents.
Product Design:
- Interpret project scopes and Design Inputs with support from the Design Manager to create a design plan.
- Develop products from concept through to Design Freeze, both individually and as a member of a project team, using SolidWorks.
- Collaborate with other Designers, Implementation Engineers, departments, test labs, suppliers, and contractors to ensure successful project completion.
- Adhere to design procedures and protocols, keeping electronic files and storing them appropriately in the EPDM vault (not on your local drive).
- Comply with Health and Safety at Work requirements at all times, ensuring your work area is clean and safe.
- Communicate project briefs to the design team.
- Ensure projects are thoroughly researched, covering user needs, market requirements, and technical requirements.
- Conduct concept and idea generation against a project scope/Design Input document for presentation to the Design Manager/Director of R&D/project team for selection.
- Progress selected designs to a final design that meets project requirements.
- Ensure the generation of all technical outputs for Design Freeze.
- Work according to DCP, PDP, and VaVe processes.
- Adhere to the patent process, ensuring no new development infringes existing patents of others.
- At Design Freeze, hand over the design documentation to the Implementation Engineer.
- Identify and communicate your training needs to the Design Manager.
Technical Support:
- Provide technical product support to Product Management and Implementation Engineering.
- Collaborate with local universities to enhance product development as required by the Design Manager.
- Stay informed about all regulatory requirements (CE, CA, FDA, etc.).
