Job description

About the programme

In 2023, we founded a Design Interns programme and we're delighted to welcome new talent to our award-winning team again.

We are looking for eight rising stars to join our Design team for a ten week paid internship programme. Design at Wise is a multidisciplinary team and we sometimes call it capital 'D' Design. While our craft is varied, human-centered design and design thinking unite us.

Are you

  • A linguistics student who is passionate about language and its close connection with behavioral psychology and sociology?
  • An English literature student who understands and applies writing techniques to create interesting and accessible content?
  • A media or journalism student who knows how to identify target audiences and shape engaging content for them?
  • A student who proactively finds ways to use your writing skills, such as working for a student magazine or blog?

And have you ever thought:

"I love what I'm studying, but I have no idea how to turn it into something I get paid for."

May we introduce you to Content Design — a super exciting internship opportunity at Wise.

What's Content Design?

Content design (also known as UX writing) is about surfacing the right information at the right time in a way that customers understand. You'll often find Content Designers working for the government or tech organisations: think Google, Meta, Government Digital Services (GDS), etc.

It combines writing skills, user research, and design thinking all into one role. Gov.uk has a great blog explaining what this career is all about.

You'll collaborate with product designers and managers, user researchers, engineers and analysts.

Your work will be varied. One day you might be interviewing customers to understand their needs. Next, you may be rewriting some copy to make a part of the customer experience clearer. Or, you might be sketching some ideas for an entirely new experience altogether. Lots of experienced Content Designers have a background in journalism, copywriting or marketing. So, if you're studying something related to these fields, and you're interested in a career in the digital sector, love writing, and want to collaboratively solve problems, then Content Design could be a great career for you.

What's Wise?

Wise is a global technology company, building the best way to move and manage the world's money.

Whether you're sending money to another country, spending money abroad, or making and receiving international business payments, Wise is on a mission to make your life easier and save you money.

Since it was founded in 2010, 5,000+ people work at Wise, from 125 nationalities, in 17 global locations. Check out what it's like working here.

What does a content Design Internship at Wise involve?

You'll be matched with a Wise sponsor in Design, collaborating with other Wisers and fellow interns on cross-functional projects. We plot our moves every quarter, and your exact project will be mapped out with your sponsor closer to when you start. You'll have plenty of room to help define your scope.

Here's how you'll be contributing:

  • You'll get to know Wise customers, building empathy and deep understanding of their needs.
  • You'll be learning about and practising Content Design in a collaborative environment.
  • You'll be connecting with your sponsor, fellow interns, and the broader design community to inject fresh creative thinking into the business.

What you'll get out of it:

  • Have a real impact. Solve real customer problems.
  • Salary of gross £28,000 yearly.
  • Fun offices with social activities — have a sneak peak of our London office.
  • Be part of a global team with a global mindset.
  • Meet with some of the most influential people at Wise on this programme.
  • Be mentored by a Design discipline expert.
  • Develop your craft and experiment in a live environment.

The necessary bits:

  • You're able to start a 10-week internship from 24 June 2024 until 30 August 2024.
  • You can work in person most of the time at our Shoreditch HQ.
  • You're eligible to work in the United Kingdom.
  • You'll graduate from an undergraduate or masters degree in 2024 or 2025. (This is an internship position, and not right for people who have years of work experience already.)

How to apply:

  • Click on the "Apply now" button and follow the instructions
  • Upload your CV and cover letter. Tell us why you're interested in this opportunity — what do you want to get out of it? How would it fit in with your passions and goals?
  • Send us a portfolio with a couple of samples of your writing. Make sure to give some context to the work, not just links or screenshots. Explain who you're writing for, if there's a problem you were trying to solve with the content, what decisions you made and why.#LI-FS1

Salary (annual)

£28,000—£28,000 GBP
