Design Manager

We are recruiting a Design Manager on behalf of our client, working on their portfolio of industrial/distribution centre projects.

Our client is a main contracting construction company, providing a comprehensive range of services including Industrial/Logistics, Commercial Offices, Residential, Refurbishment, Sports and Leisure, and Education projects. 

Job Description

Tasked with overseeing and delivering design information as per the agreed schedule, spanning both pre-construction and construction phases of projects. Responsibilities include developing design programs, scopes, and matrices, managing appointments, tracking progress, participating in meetings, and ensuring compliance with regulations and technical standards.

Responsibilities

• Manage contract specifications, drawings, and associated documents.
• Handle Requests For Information (RFIs) from initiation to resolution.
• Lead design team meetings and collaborate with consultants and subcontract designers.
• Provide design updates to the client team.
• Ensure projects meet BREEAM sustainability standards where necessary.
• Coordinate information submissions to fulfill planning conditions.
• Conduct design review workshops to clarify technical submissions.
• Perform technical reviews of proposed works.
• Coordinate submissions for Building Control compliance.
• Manage the design process and information release schedules.
• Contribute to procurement processes through design input and review.
• Assist in compiling O&M Health and Safety files.
• Offer design and technical support to project management teams.
• Identify and advise on value engineering opportunities.
• Adhere to company quality, environmental, and safety standards.
• Foster strong relationships with external parties and promote internal teamwork.
• Ensure department operations align with company health and safety policies.
• Conduct risk assessments and implement mitigation measures.
• Support team development through guidance, feedback, and training opportunities.
• Undertake any additional duties relevant to the Design Manager role.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, or related field.
• Extensive experience in engineering or architecture.
• Previous experience managing design teams.
• Familiarity with company policies and health and safety regulations.
• Proficiency in project planning, management, and budgeting.
• Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
• Excellent IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.
