Role Responsibility
The Creative Vision team exists to keep the brand and business at the forefront of fashion and culture through exceptional research and ideation, direction setting and creative development. The team owns the translation of the Selfridges brand across image, language and design ensuring a powerful and impactful consistency as well as leading world-renowned campaigns that are disruptive, cut through the noise and draw attention to Selfridges. The team develops briefs and toolkits to define the future of the physical and digital Selfridges experience while doing research that provokes and pushes the business and our ideation forward.
Role Purpose:
As a Design Manager, you will work on the design direction for Selfridges’ most high-profile and exciting moments across the stores, online and beyond.
We are looking for a highly talented and visually articulate individual, tuned in to the latest creative and cultural movements with a broad skillset and a strong point of view. With strong storytelling and communication skills, you will have the opportunity to shape the graphic language of a variety of projects, including campaigns, magazines, store design, pop-ups, and more.
You will support the Senior Design Manager in defining, developing and executing Selfridges brand and campaign moments across multiple channels. You will also play a key part in maintaining and evolving the core brand identity. Working collaboratively across teams, you will work to bring Selfridges’ unique personality to life. You will also lead some projects independently.
Key responsibilities
- Continue to build Selfridges’ creative reputation through innovative, highly creative graphic design.
- Visual research and ideation in collaboration with the wider team at the inception of a project, demonstrating awareness of current creative and cultural movements
- Present work at both internal and external stakeholder meetings, including at director/board level where appropriate.
- Ensure consistency of creative/brand message across multiple channels by working with motion and digital designers across the business.
- Build relationships with key stakeholders throughout the business to help steer concepts.
- Develop graphic toolkits for key moments throughout the year such as calendar events.
- Maintain and evolve our brand guidelines.
- Work alongside external creative collaborators; art directing illustrators and designers where appropriate.
- Ensure the department maintains high standards regarding operating in an environmentally sustainable and ethical manner.
- Challenge the team to think differently, see new perspectives and consider new approaches to our graphic output.
The Ideal Candidate
- Degree in graphic design or closely related field.
- 3–5 years of relevant experience in a professional creative environment.
- A strong portfolio of graphic design work.
- Highly organised with an ability to manage time and priorities, and work to processes and deadlines.
- Strong visual, verbal and written communication skills.
- An enthusiasm for your practice and a strong sense of personal responsibility for your own learning and development.
- A strong knowledge of and skill for typography.
- Intellectually curious and open-minded.
- Able to present confidently to large groups and externals.
- Knowledge of the print/production process.
- Knowledge of motion/3D design desirable but not required.
