Description
Role Purpose and Role Dimensions:
>To lead and have responsibility for an Area Team of planning officers, providing guidance and support on all aspects of their working life and take decisions on a full range of delegated casework on behalf of the head of Development Management. To manage and process appeals within the team. To participate and take an active involvement in the DM Management Team, to deliver service plan objectives and other service improvements including the delivery of DM Action Plans. To evaluate and make recommendations on planning and related applications including those of a complex and controversial nature.
>To present and be accountable for the work of the Applications Team, referring matters to the Planning Committee/Planning Sub Committee. To be responsible for performance management of the Applications Team, ensuring that all staff operate effectively and efficiently in accordance with agreed standards. To engage in Member Training activities and to represent the Council at Developer Forum, Resident Association and Pan London events - in relation to town planning matters.
- To lead and have responsibility for the South Area Team of planning officers, providing guidance and support on all aspects of their working life and take decisions on a full range of delegated casework
- To manage and process appeals within the team at all types of appeals (Written Reps, Hearing and Public Inquiries)
- To present and be accountable for the work of the Applications Team, referring matters to the Planning Committee/Planning Sub Committee
- T be responsible for the performance management of the team
- Champion customer service and engagement with elected members and the Executive Mayor.
Key Accountabilities:
- Being an advocate for growth and regeneration, facilitating high quality development
- Leading in the management of change initiatives in a team and deputising where appropriate for the Head of Development Management
- Responsibility for implementing the DM Action Plan and the departmental service plan, providing clear direction on service improvements.
Essential knowledge:
- RTPI accredited postgraduate degree
- Management qualification (e.g. Certificate or Diploma) desirable
- Management training
- Eligible for membership of RTPI
- Comprehensive understanding of current issues & developments affecting planning, regeneration and local government in London
- Policy: comprehensive understanding of Central Government and development plan policy issues
- Law: comprehensive understanding of Development Management & related legislation and good understanding of local government legislation
- High level of political awareness and comprehensive knowledge of the operation of local government
