DevOps Engineer

This DevOps Engineer will report to the Analytics & DevOps Lead and will work within Digital, Safety Strategy and Support Services directorate based in either our London or Crawley office. You will be a permanent employee.

You will attract a salary of £70,000.00 and a bonus of 7.5%. This role can also offer blended working after probationary period (6 months) - 3 days in the office and 2 remote

JOB PURPOSE:

Electric vehicles, solar farms, wind turbines; it's UKPN's infrastructure that enables these assets to connect and power the UK's low carbon transition and we need your help to accelerate our digital capabilities and solutions so we can do more.

You will sit within our new Digital Sub-Directorate and you will report into the Analytics and DevOps Lead. The Analytics and DevOps team works across all areas of our business, from Operations to Customer Services to Finance, and many more. We are dedicated to developing cutting-edge models, producing insights, and building interactive applications using technologies such as Databricks, Plotly Dash, AI to solve the business' most valuable problems. We are seeking an experienced DevOps Engineer to join our team and help us maintain our models, Plotly Dash apps, GitHub space, and implement DevOps best practices.

As a DevOps Engineer, you will help ensure the reliability, scalability, and efficiency of our models and Plotly Dash applications. You will maintain our GitHub space, implementing CI/CD pipelines, and bringing DevOps best practices to our team. We ask that you have strong technical skills, a solid understanding of cloud technologies, and a passion for automation and continuous improvement. Python and GitHUB experience is essential, while experience with Databricks, PySpark and Azure.

DIMENSIONS:

No line management or budgetary accountabilities.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Maintain machine learning models, interactive dashboards, and Plotly Dash applications deployed in production environments.
  • Manage and enhance our GitHub space, ensuring code quality, version control, and collaboration among team members.
  • Manage CI/CD pipelines for automated testing, deployment, and monitoring of applications.
  • Collaborate with the Analytics team to design infrastructure solutions that support development and deployment workflows.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to infrastructure, deployments, and application performance.
  • Implement DevOps best practices, such as configuration management, and automated testing.
  • Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and best practices in DevOps, cloud computing, Python, Databricks, PySpark, Azure, and GitHub.

Qualifications:

Experience

  • Experience working within cloud-based architecture and deployment (Azure experience and qualification is desirable)
  • Hands-on experience with building, maintaining, and deploying interactive dashboards, machine learning models, and web applications.
  • Proficiency in managing GitHub repositories, including branching, merging, and code reviews.
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP (Azure experience preferred).
  • Familiarity with CI/CD tools preferably GitHub Actions.
  • Understanding of networking, security, and system administration concepts.
  • Experience with Databricks and PySpark (preferred).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Cloud & DevOps certification advantageous.
  • 2 years + experience as a DevOps engineer.
  • Experience in SQL coding and Python.
