The Role

Responsibilities


We are looking for a motivated DevOps Engineer to join our agile cross-functional product team. You will be responsible for the architecture, design, and implementation of platform solutions for our product on AWS. You will work with the Principal AWS DevOps Engineer and technical leaders to analyze and build cloud platform solutions and processes to deliver highly secure, scalable, and reliable services. You will also support the implementation and maintenance of ISO 27001 / ISMS.


You will have strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, solid communication skills, a desire to tackle complex problems, and a genuine passion for technology. While you may come from an infrastructure background, you should be comfortable with writing scripts and basic software code to enhance and streamline your daily activities.
Ownership, keen attention to detail, quality of work, and operational excellence are essential qualities for this role. You must be a doer, rolling your sleeves up, and working on current problems while thinking about future strategies.


Key responsibilities include but not limited to


  • Work with Principal AWS DevOps Engineer to clearly define detailed requirements, plan and prioritize work as per the business needs
  • Design, implement, and deploy cloud platform solutions
  • Ensure adherence to high-security standards
  • Strive for zero downtime when deploying solutions/services
  • Develop and own processes/procedures for scaling, capacity planning, configuration management, monitoring etc.
  • Provide day-to-day operational support and perform systems administration tasks
  • Ensure high-quality monitoring coverage
  • Identify potential points of failure in the infrastructure/systems and develop a mitigation strategy
  • Drive automation
  • Provide operational support and coordination with our internal IT team
  • Support implementation and maintenance of ISO 27001

We are currently using the following technologies (but this is evolving all the time):


  • AWS - CloudFormation, EC2, RDS, Lambda, S3, SQS, SNS, ElasticSearch, CloudWatch
  • NoSQL - DynamoDB, CouchBase
  • Operating Systems - Windows, Linux
  • Database - MySQL
  • Scripting Languages - PowerShell, bash
  • CI / CD - Git, TeamCity, AWS CodeDeploy
  • Other stuff - RabbitMQ


Skills & Experience you'll struggle without

You don't need to have every single one of these skills, but the more you have, the more likely it is you'll be able to do a great job.


  • Technical infrastructure skills in a complex environment across servers, storage, and networks
  • Strong AWS experience
  • Comfort working in high-security / high-compliance environments
  • Sound experience with programming and scripting in a server and/or web environment
  • Database administration including enhancing performance and building resilient solutions
  • Understanding of CI/CD concept and best practices
  • Javascript and/or Lambda function writing
  • Monitoring, logging, and alerting of large distributed systems
  • Managing large-scale tasks from inception to completion
  • Experience in designing and implementing simple solutions to tricky problems
  • Experience with infrastructure or application automation
  • Experience with maintaining and supporting large-scale customer-facing environments
  • Good understanding of key web environments and protocols
  • Good networking experience with at least a basic understanding of IP, network traffic flow, network ports, and protocols (e.g. http, https, smtp, ftp)
  • Comfortable with using Windows and Linux command line tools for administration tasks
  • Sound analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Good knowledge of security as it relates to cloud-based infrastructure
  • Proficient oral and written communication skills
  • Passion for technology and innovation


Skills & Experience that would be a bonus

We'll get pretty excited if you also have some of these:


  • Automation tooling (eg. Hashicorp products, configuration management)
  • Automated testing
  • Understanding of IaC, shift-left, and immutable systems principles
  • Tertiary degree in computer science or related areas
  • ISO 27001/PCI compliance
