Job description

Are you an HetV diagnostic expert with an interest in Super Raptor systems? Would you like the opportunity to work in AWE's unique Hydrodynamics Delivery Unit? Then we have the perfect role for you. AWE is recruiting for an HetV diagnostic expert to develop their knowledge and experience on a Super Raptor system. We would like someone who has experience working with HetV diagnostic systems and could undertake training and mentorship of junior members of the team teaching them best practice and techniques.

Salary: £42,520 - £67,000 per annum (depending on your suitability and level of experience)

The Role?

The Trials & Test Group are looking for a Diagnostic Specialist to work in our Hydrodynamics Delivery Unit. The Hydrodynamics Delivery Unit (HDU) is a group of talented individuals brought together from multiple functions to deliver weapon-related explosive experiments for the AWE programme. Skilled scientists, engineers, technicians, and project managers all contribute to a figurative and literal dynamic trials environment.

Candidates must be willing to work safely within a uniquely hazardous environment for this role

The Hydrodynamics Delivery Unit (HDU) is seeking an experienced operator of Heterodyne Velocimetry systems to perform in a Subject Matter Expert role with the following accountabilities and responsibilities:

  • Accountable for the operation of HDU's HetV systems, including 16-channel, MHetV and Super Raptor, in capturing data from Hydrodynamic experiments.
  • Accountable for the maintenance and repair of HDU's HetV systems.
  • Responsible for managing the critical spares and obsolescence of HDU's HetV systems.
  • Responsible for the training and ongoing competence assessment of new operators of HDU's HetV systems.
  • Responsible for the strategic oversight of HDU's HetV requirements into the future, including responsibility for any procurement, design & manufacture as a result of emerging needs.
  • Candidate must be willing to undertake secondary roles for the delivery unit as required.

Whilst not to be considered a check list, candidates would also benefit from knowledge of ANY of the following:

  • Experience in maintaining Pulsed Power or High Voltage Systems.
  • Experience in maintaining high vacuum systems would be advantageous.
  • Experience in maintaining/operating X-Ray machines.
  • Prior experience of recording and analysing of test data.
  • Proven experience of preparing safety documentation, writing reports and giving presentations.
  • Level 3 BTEC or equivalent or experienced individuals, in an engineering or science discipline.

To be considered for the role you would ideally have an HND or degree qualification in an engineering discipline or proven experience working in a similar environment and possess strong communication skills.

Candidates must be willing and able to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance for the role.
