Job description


To work, under dietetic supervision, to support the dietitians and ward staff in providing nutrition and dietetics services for in- and outpatients.
Office Based:
To undertake clerical and administration tasks. This will include gathering clinical information, triaging appointments, screening clinic lists and booking appointments.
Ward based:
Help ensure ward staff and catering can provide appropriate nutrition for individual patients to fulfil the treatment plans designed by dietitians
To collect information to support the review of individual patient’s nutritional intake and accurately report back to dietitians
Maintain close and meaningful communication with key staff at all levels

Dietetic Assistant- Band 3, 12 months fixed term (1 wte)
We are looking for a friendly, organised and flexible individual to join our large dietetic department to support the dietitians. This role is an ideal stepping-stone for those interested in a career in dietetics.
The role will be ~60% computer based and will require the collection and transcribing of clinical information such as blood results, weight and height measurements. The post also involves screening patients attending clinics, using a criteria based protocol, to allow the renal dietitians to triage their clinics.
This post will also involve clinical work on the hospital wards. You will be communicating with patients and ward staff to help the dietitians develop and monitor nutrition care plans for patients. The successful candidate will work with a large team of dietitians who cover a variety of wards including renal and critical care at Southmead Hospital.
We're looking for someone who is well organized, good keyboard/computer skills with an ability to concentrate and work accurately. Your training needs will be supported and you will link with other staff doing similar tasks within the department.
This role is an ideal stepping-stone for those interested in a career in dietetics. There may be any opportunity to consider a dietetic apprenticeship within the role.
The post holder would be based within the department of Nutrition & Dietetics at Southmead Hospital, but with some flexibility to work from home.
Essential:
Communicate effectively with patients and their relatives (on the phone and face to face) by listening to them, taking account of any special needs, disabilities or preferences.
Maintain courtesy and respect at all times to patients, relatives and other staff, taking into account any special needs, disabilities or preferences.
Accurately record documentation relevant to patient care ensuring confidentiality of patient information at all times e.g. fluid charts, blood results, food charts and progress against care plans, collection of personal details, recording of height and weight.
Help to co-ordinate out-patient bookings and triage out-.patient referrals.
Support out-patient clinics through recording blood results, simple audits or surveys.
