Team Overview
Ofcom is looking for an experienced Content Producer to prepare and publish content for our websites.

Ofcom is the UK’s communications watchdog. We regulate services from phone and broadband to TV and radio, airwaves and the postal service. We’re also taking on new duties to make online services safer for everyone. It’s important work on behalf of people across the UK.

Most people find Ofcom through our website, so we are currently developing a new, innovative site to serve people and businesses more effectively. We’re seeking a Content Producer with an excellent eye for detail, who can spot opportunities to add value to content and help make each visit to our website an engaging, inclusive experience.

The Digital Content Producer sits in Ofcom’s friendly and expert Communications team – judged by PR Week as the best place to work in-house in the UK.
Purpose of the Role
The Digital Content Producer prepares and publishes content for our websites using a content management system (CMS) or digital experience platform (DXP).
On a daily basis you’ll work alongside others in the team to ensure content is published in a timely way. Using excellent collaboration and time management skills, you will balance daily publishing activity with a programme of work to help keep our content fresh and contribute to web improvements.
Key responsibilities
  • Engage with colleagues to ensure the timely delivery of web content and publications, so that projects are concluded efficiently.
  • Prepare content for publication, ensuring content is accurate, high quality and adheres to brand guidelines.
  • Publish material using our CMS during usual business hours. (There may be occasional out-of-hours publishing required by exception.)
  • Reformat Word documents to conform to templates where necessary and coach authors in the use of templates.
  • Provide support and advice to CMS users and content providers across Ofcom.
  • Check content to make sure it complies with web accessibility guidelines.
  • Support our content health programme of work to review older content and keep the website fresh, relevant and searchable.
  • Support digital developments by contributing to online development projects.
  • Keep up to date with best practice in digital communication
  • Attend meetings, continually representing and contributing to a high preforming digital team and offering new ideas.
  • Manage search engine optimisation to ensure content is findable and tagged appropriately.
  • Candidates with visual creative skills may also help support the creative team in developing other digital assets such as infographics and video.
Skills, Knowledge and experience
  • Use of an enterprise-level web publishing system (CMS or DXP) to an advanced level.
  • Delivery of significant project volumes to very tight deadlines and high standards.
  • Ability to write and edit content using plain English.
  • Use of Google Analytics.
  • Implementation of SEO techniques.
  • Experience of supporting others with devolved publishing.
  • Use of cloud-based campaign mail software such as Campaign Monitor, MailChimp, Dotmailer or similar.
  • Comfortable managing a varied workload and honest conversations with colleagues.
  • Understanding of web accessibility standards.
  • Knowledge of HTML and browser and user interfaces.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to identify with, and embody, Ofcom's values of excellence, agility, empowerment, collaboration and respect.
  • Use of analytics to improve content.
  • Knowledge and implementation of best practice from the Government Digital Service is desirable.
  • Experience of developing and editing graphics using Adobe Creative Suite is also helpful.
