Job description

Our Director of Clinical Research, Prof. Christopher Buckley, is seeking to recruit a new member for his research team to manage a small research facility (SRF) named the Digital Pathology Omics Core facility (DPOC). Amongst various facility and line managing duties, you will be solely responsible for the daily management of multiplex imaging, including innovative technique development, and advanced image analysis. As the Facility Manager, you will be responsible for your own research projects as well as providing support for projects funded by the Arthritis – Therapy Acceleration Program, Cartography and Oxford Biomedical Research Centre Inflammation Across Tissues. You will also provide advice, assistance, and guidance on multiplex imaging to researchers across the medical sciences division and externally including training and use of SRF instrumentation. For this role you will require excellent interpersonal skills, strong planning and organisational skills, and have the ability to troubleshoot and establish new processes in multiplex imaging.   You will be responsible for managing academic research and administrative activities. This involves conducting innovative research projects to deliver new techniques and technologies to the SRF in addition to the co-ordination of multiple deadlines. You will be expected to use advanced imaging equipment including the Cell DIVE, Multiplex Ion Beam Imaging (MIBI) system and Open-Top Light-Sheet (OTLS) microscope. Additionally, you will oversee general SRF management and overall administration and finances involved with the SRF for internal and external users, including sourcing and purchasing equipment and consumables, developing and implementing cost models and managing human sample logistics for samples from across the UK and abroad.   For this role, it is essential that you hold a PhD/DPhil (or near completion) or equivalent work experience together with some relevant experience in histology and microscopy and have the ability to manage your own research and administrative activities as well as projects assigned to the imaging facility. You must be able to demonstrate excellent organisational and project management skills, and be able to manage both time and records effectively. It is preferred that you posses knowledge in multiplexed imaging or advanced microscopy and have experience in line management within a scientific environment. You may also have some experience of training other researchers in the use of advanced microscopy.   This is a fixed-term, full time position of 3 years, in the first instance.     Due to the nature of the research at the Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology, this job will require additional security pre-employment checks: •    A satisfactory basic Disclosure and Barring Service check
