Job description

A career in our Merger and Acquisition Tax practice, within Tax services, will provide you with the opportunity to help our clients meet and manage their tax obligations across unique but ever changing tax specialties. You’ll advise clients on their local and overseas tax affairs, while acting as a strategic consultant related to business analysis, managing indirect taxes, dispute resolution, and global enterprise tax solutions. Our team helps our clients with various aspects of a merger and acquisition transactions such as restructuring, divestiture, partnerships and insolvency. You’ll focus on helping clients establish treasury goals, analyse and quantify tax assets, assess tax risks, and model taxable income and cash flow impacts.

Our Deals Tax team works closely with our Deals practice to advise on the tax implications of a variety of deals projects including; Business Recovery Services, Real Estate and Mergers and Acquisitions. Part of the wider Corporate Tax network, we're committed to driving collaboration and cross-working across specialities to drive innovation and success as we service clients all over the world.

The role sits within the Real Estate Tax team, the largest specialist team in the PwC global Real Estate network. We work on a wide range of transactions advising investors  on the tax implications of the transactions they undertake. Many of the transactions are large scale involving private equity, institutions, pension and sovereign wealth funds, and REITs, often involving advice on cross-border structuring tax implications.  For many of our clients we offer wider advisory services including those related to the set up and ongoing maintenance of fund and investment platforms, and ultimately on exit strategies.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead teams to deliver bespoke, commercially focused tax advice in a fast-paced and evolving international deals market

  • Responsibility for establishing and maintaining relationships as a trusted advisor; leading client engagements and work across our Deals business to lead multi-disciplinary solutions to clients

  • Be proactive in seeking opportunities to deliver and enhance value for new and existing clients 

  • Use your internal network to draw upon specialist input on tax and non-tax matters in connection with transactions 

  • Overall responsibility for ensuring successful delivery and management of projects, including financial performance

  • Take an active role in contributing to the strategic vision of the Deals Tax Team - working to capture opportunities for growth and diversification

  • Lead by example in your personal development, coaching your team to advance their learning and fulfil their own potential

  • Be agile and open minded in your approach to new challenges and seek opportunities to enhance project delivery through new technologies

Essential skills and experience:

  • Chartered Accountant (ACCA, ICAEW, ICAS, CAI) or Chartered Tax Advisor (ATT, CTA) or equivalent international or legal professional qualification

  • Extensive experience, successfully leading teams on a number of M&A transactions including due diligence, structuring & tax modelling

  • Strong understanding of indirect and transfer taxes, management taxes and international tax principles

  • A substantive, proven track record of building internal and external relationships and networks, both within the UK and overseas

  • Developed communication skills, specifically in negotiating with and influencing others 

  • An inquisitive mind and ability to solve problems as part of a diverse team

  • Ability to use tax technical knowledge & insights in a fast paced commercial environment

  • Proven ability to win client engagements and develop new business relationships with clients.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, able to work collaboratively with people at all levels in a confident manner.
