Connect to your Industry

Are you interested in how the Internet shapes almost every aspect of our everyday lives – from remote working and e-commerce, to social media, dating apps, online gaming and more? Are you interested in the challenges we face in combating disinformation, keeping children safe online, preventing harmful content and behaviour, enabling fair digital competition, supporting freedom of speech, protecting data privacy and responding to the explosion of AI tools? If so, this may be the role for you.

We are at a global cross-roads as regulators and policy-makers bring a wave of new laws and regulations aimed at regulating digital businesses. Whether social networks, messaging services, search engines, app stores or online marketplaces… all digital business will be affected.

Deloitte’s Internet Regulation offering is supported by a global and multi-disciplinary team comprising premium advisory services, operating model transformation and delivery, large-scale operate offerings, regulation specific support services, and ongoing assurance. Our team includes governance, risk, and compliance specialists, lawyers, auditors, technologists and competition experts working in collaboration with specialist teams across Deloitte.

Connect to your career at Deloitte

Deloitte drives progress. Using our vast range of expertise, that covers audit, risk advisory, and consulting services across tax, legal, business, technology and corporate finance, we help our clients become leaders wherever they choose to compete. To do this, we invest in outstanding people. We build teams of future thinkers, with diverse talents and backgrounds, and empower them all to reach for and achieve more.

What brings us all together at Deloitte? It’s how we approach the thousands of decisions we make every day. How we behave, our beliefs and our attitudes. In other words: our values. Whatever we do, wherever we are in the world, we lead the way, serve with integrity, take care of each other, foster inclusion, and collaborate for measurable impact. These five shared values lead every decision we make and action we take, guiding us to deliver impact how and where it matters most.

Connect to your opportunity

Join our Internet Regulation team – a role based within our Risk Advisory practice working across the firm as part of a multi-disciplinary team who help Internet companies and other affected organisations to navigate the challenges of regulatory change.

We are looking to expand our Internet Regulation team with governance, risk, and compliance specialists who can serve our clients with distinction.

Typical projects include:

  • Identifying new Internet Regulations that could impact the strategic direction of our clients
  • Helping establish governance, risk, and compliance capabilities across large TMT (Technology, Media and Telecommunications) clients, including setting up specific second line functions such as Trust & Safety
  • Supporting clients with specific regulatory compliance obligations including systemic risk assessments, transparency reporting, and regulatory readiness assessments
  • Development of new Internet Regulation offerings.

Connect to your skills and professional experience

You are an excellent communicator. Someone with excellent communication skills, experienced in preparing and delivering presentations to senior stakeholders across a range of business areas and is able to work effectively in diverse teams within an inclusive team culture where people are recognised for their contribution.

You are a technically skilled leader. Someone with a background in Governance, Risk and Compliance either in industry or professional services and with an understanding of how these relate to Internet Regulation. You’ll lead project teams and take ownership for a specific offering within our Internet Regulation practice.

You are pragmatic. Internet Regulation is a complex and emerging area of regulation. Our engagements require pragmatic approaches, centred on a solid understanding of governance, ethics and compliance thus enabling us to provide sound advice to our clients to help them meet the challenges they face and minimise their risks in an effective, efficient, and coherent manner.

Essential knowledge, skills, and capabilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Team-working and inclusive working style, able to work within teams of varying size and geographical location
  • Embraces innovation and has a natural interest in technology
  • Confident navigating complexity and ambiguity
  • Excellent networking and communication skills
  • Good commercial acumen
  • Excellent writing skills, including report and proposal writing
  • Project management skills, including managing budgets
  • Ability to work as part of a globally diverse team in an agile environment
  • Problem solving to help build solutions for clients by applying insight and experience
  • Additional desirable attributes include:
  • Flexibility and resilience to the rapidly changing requirements, typical of the industry in which we operate
  • Practical experience in designing and implementing governance, risk, or compliance frameworks
  • Understanding of the drivers for regulatory transformation (online harms, competition, AI/Machine Learning)
  • Knowledge of key flagship Internet Regulations including, but not limited to, EU (European Union) Digital Services Act, EU Digital Markets Act, EU AI Act and UK Online Safety Bill.
  • Experience of second line compliance functions including but not limited to trust and safety, content compliance, or data privacy
  • Experience utilising technology platforms or solutions to support / deliver projects

The team may need to travel nationally or internationally dependent on client needs so candidates should have a passion for travel. Our team often (but not exclusively) works with clients and colleagues in the US (United States) so an ability to work with the US West Coast time zone as needed would be an advantage.

Foreign language skills are preferable but not essential. Deloitte Works encourages an agile approach to working and we expect an individual to work in a way that meets both the needs of the clients, Risk Advisory, and their personal situation.

Connect to your business - Risk Advisory

As recent events have reminded us, there are no certainties in business. Risk is everywhere. But so is opportunity. Your expertise will help our clients stay one step ahead of what hasn’t even been imagined yet.

Personal independence

Regulation and controls are standard practice in our industry and Deloitte is no exception. These controls provide important legal protection for both you and the firm. We are subject to a number of audit regulations, one of which requires that certain colleagues abide by specific personal independence constraints (e.g., in relation to any financial interests and employment relationships). This can mean that you and your "Immediate Family Members" are not permitted to hold certain financial interests (shares, funds, bonds etc.) with audit clients of the firm, and also prohibitions on certain employment relationships (e.g., you are not permitted to hold a secondary employment role with SEC audit clients of the firm whilst being employed by the firm). The recruitment team will provide further detail as you progress through the recruitment process or you can contact the Independence team upon request.

Connect with your colleagues

“One of the best things about working in Internet Regulation is being part of a large, multi-disciplinary team. You have the opportunity to collaborate with experts from across different areas of the firm to make sure we are bringing the best of Deloitte to our clients. On any given project I could be working with lawyers, tax specialists and economists - I really enjoy learning from the different teams”
– Lucy Holliday, Manager, Risk Advisory

“Linking our work to the wider community has always been important for me, and with the breadth of Internet Regulation projects that Deloitte has to offer, it is easy to see the profound social impact that our work has on how we as individuals – as well as a society – will engage, act, and connect online.”
– Gabriella Brining, Manager, Risk Advisory.
