Job Description

DIRECTOR OF ESTATES AND FACILITIES JOB ADVERT

Full time, remote with travel to sites in England and Wales. £85, 000 to £95, 000.

The Healthcare Management Trust (HMT) is a purpose-led healthcare charity established over 35 years ago, employing over 600 team members and with an income of approximately £50 million. We care deeply for people; whether that be our team members, our patients and residents, or the communities we serve. We currently operate two acute hospitals in Swansea and Grimsby and several care homes; provide consultancy services to other charities; and promote healthy and active lifestyles across a wide age range in the communities in which we are based. We have an exciting development programme, which includes a new, state-of-the-art care home in Littlehampton.

We are seeking a Director of Estates and Facilities to join our team and to help us move forward on the next phase of our growth journey. This role will report to the Executive Director of Finance.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

As the Director of Estates and Facilities, your role will take responsibility for our full estate portfolio, including facilities management, maintenance services and health and safety. You will ensure robust management of our extensive maintenance and capital expenditure programme as well as ensuring all new capital development projects are successfully managed. You will be a dynamic and authentic leader who can represent our values and embody our behaviours.

You will provide clear strategic leadership, shaping our long-term estates strategy, and ensuring effective governance of major capital projects. Regularly reporting on plans, progress, and benefits realised, you will foster a culture of proactive engagement and risk management across the organisation and our key stakeholders.

Externally, you will represent HMT on estates and facilities management matters within the sector, actively nurturing beneficial relationships with external partners. Your responsibilities extend to overseeing a growing estate with diverse stakeholders. This portfolio also includes facilities management services, and significant budgets, ensuring efficient resource allocation. Additionally, you will be the nominated individual responsible for health and safety across the organisation and the management of key risks within your remit, particularly in areas such as Capital Governance, Health and Safety, Business Continuity, and Risk Management.

You will guide and lead the business in developing and implementing Sustainability and Net Zero strategies, ensuring our building assets and carbon footprint are as efficient and ‘green’ as possible. In conjunction with the Executive Team, you will lead efforts in relation to the setting and monitoring of SDGs.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND ATTRIBUTES

To excel in this role, you should hold a relevant degree or postgraduate qualification, coupled with a minimum of 5 years of senior leadership experience. NEBOSH National General Certificate is essential and NEBOSH National Diploma desirable. Prior experience in the health and/or social care sector would be beneficial but we will consider someone with exceptional experience outside of the sector. You must be able to demonstrate a track record of managing a geographically spread and complicated estate alongside efficiently managing complex budgets. Experience of leading organisational change programmes will be invaluable, in addition to expertise in designing and delivering capital development programmes. High-level negotiating and influencing skills are essential to engage effectively with senior managers and highly qualified professionals, both internally and externally. As fairly extensive travel will be required, a full valid UK driver’s license and own vehicle is essential.

Appointment will be subject to an appropriate DBS check.

If you are interested and believe you have the experience we are looking for, please send your CV for attention of the Executive Director of Finance, via email to [email protected] Applications must be received by 31 December 2023.
