Reports to: CEO

Breaking Barriers

Hours: Part-time – 4 Days per week

Salary: £63k-£69k FTE

Location: London- Hybrid working location with flexible working patterns available

Charity People is delighted to be partnering with Breaking Barriers; a specialist refugee employee charity that works to enable refugees to build new lives, step by step. With a firm belief in the power of responsible businesses, the organisation welcomes refugees into meaningful employment by providing one-to-one advice and guidance, education, and training.

This is a brand new role that will be essential in leading Breaking Barriers (BB) HR function and ensuring that BB continues to be a great place to work. Their people are essential to achieving our organisational objectives and our vision that every refugee can access meaningful employment and build a new life.

In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring there are effective staffing structures and HR processes to support their growth nationally. You will be responsible for maintaining a culture across BB where staff feel engaged, included and welcomed into the organisation. You will champion high performance, the development of skills and ensure that staff are supported in their wellbeing and progression.

A highly strategic role, as Director of People your core remit will be as follows:

  • Working collaboratively across the organisation and with the Senior Leadership Team, you will provide advice and support to the organisation on all people related practices.
  • You will create and lead the People strategy to ensure that the people-related elements of our growth plans are delivered and that HR processes are developed and embedded.
  • Lead and oversee the delivery of the People Strategy for Breaking Barriers, ensuring it supports the organisational goals and strategic ambitions.
  • You will manage the wider People team, providing inspirational leadership and supporting them to continue to set excellent standards in their support of the organisation.
  • Lead the Lived Experience Strategy, ensuring that people from a refugee background are central to our work. Ensure meaningful support and progression pathways are available for staff within the organisation, championing internal progression and supporting staff through training and wellbeing. Oversee how we gather input from individuals outside of the organisation, seeking feedback and ways to improve from individuals that have experienced our support or have lived experience.

About the person:

It’s not essential that you have experience working within the refugee sector, although you will be a seasoned Senior HR Leader, with a passion for high-quality HR service. Strong management skills, ability to lead and develop a team, and passion for supporting the development of an inclusive culture.
