Job description

About the role

Our county is rooted in history, academia, commerce and agriculture – from Cambridge’s world class university to our thriving market towns, and from the beauty of Ely Cathedral to the rich farmland of the fens, its vibrant and diverse people are ambitious, innovative and entrepreneurial.

Our vision is to create a greener, fairer and more caring Cambridgeshire and we need inspiring, collaborative, empathetic and inclusive senior leaders to be part of the leadership team to drive forward this vision and make it a reality. We’ve been working hard on our organisational shape to reflect our priorities and ambitions, and this has resulted in this newly configured role, which will have a direct and positive impact on the lives of our residents and the future direction of our county.

Despite our relative prosperity we still face a number of common challenges and you’ll be leading the development of the Public Health team across Cambridgeshire, embedding their work in the council and addressing the health inequalities across the county, whilst improving the health and wellbeing of our residents and safeguarding local communities from health threats such as infectious diseases and environmental hazards.

You’ll have a unique opportunity to be bold, creative and challenge traditional thinking, whilst helping us to make a real impact.

For further information about this exciting opportunity please call our advising consultants at Penna: Nick Raper on 07715 690463 or Priyesh Bhadressa on 07548 108176.

Closing date: 26th July 2024 Final Panel/AAC: w/c 19th August 2024

What will you be doing?

We’re seeking an inspirational leader who can develop and implement a comprehensive Public Health strategy, focusing on the wider determinants of health, along with innovative, evidence-based initiatives to address the key Public Health challenges we face.

About you

You’ll be included in the GMC Specialist Register/GDC Specialist List or UK Voluntary Register for Public Health Specialists and be able to demonstrate a high level of expertise in the Faculty of Public Health Competencies. You’ll be a highly effective and visible leader, with the personal vision and presence to inspire and empower colleagues within the council, the wider system and our communities to achieve the best possible health outcomes.

Our four values are central to our culture, driving everything we do.
