Job description

We are seeking a Director of Sales for our established manufacturing client based in Hadleigh, Suffolk. This is a brand-new opportunity to join a well-established company. The ideal candidate will have experience selling capital plant and industrial machinery and have a proven track record of developing sales and marketing strategy and obtaining new business across the UK, Europe, Middle East and North Africa.

This permanent opportunity comes with a competitive annual plus opportunity to earn bonuses, and a company car. This role will involve hybrid working, plus regular UK and overseas travel.

The Job

Working closely with the small team of Directors, this new addition to the business will be responsible for all commercial activity within the company and will report directly to the Managing Director. As well as demonstrating a hands-on and involved approach across the company generally, the Director of Sales will be focused on the development and delivery of the rolling three-year sales and marketing strategy.

The Director of Sales will also lead a small sales and marketing team, offering individually tailored support, motivation, and guidance. It will be important that the new Director of Sales goes to lengths to understand both the company’s products and the unique challenges that are presented within its marketplace.

  • Develop a rolling three-year sales and marketing strategy by evaluating the existing market, resources, sales channels and opportunities in new markets or new applications.
  • Present and communicate the sales and marketing plan to the team and company to deliver the strategy.
  • Lead, manage and support the sales and marketing team to deliver their goals, completing joint sales calls periodically.
  • Working as a key member of the senior management team, contribute to the overall long-range plan of the company and business objectives.
  • Setting and managing the budget for the sales and marketing team.
  • Working with the regional sales managers evaluate existing customers and identifying a strategy to increase repeat business.
  • Ensure existing markets are well served and key contacts maintained.
  • Develop an understanding of key markets and products required to generate new business.
  • Ability to present and sell a premium product highlighting key features, benefits and efficiencies.
  • Identify new product development (NPD) opportunities, work with the engineering team to evaluate viability, timeline and cost. Participate in the NPD process from concept to delivery.
  • A willingness to challenge the status quo and bring new ideas and methods to the sales and marketing team.

Requirements

This role would suit somebody working in sales management who is looking for the next step up in their career, or equally would be suitable for somebody already working at director level and is seeking a new challenge. Plenty of experience in selling capital equipment in a B2B setting is essential, as is a proven track record of delivering great results in a competitive market.

Other requirements are:

  • Experience selling capital plant and industrial machinery, with a preference towards rotating machinery, i.e., pumps, compressors, generators into the rental, industrial, oil and gas, and water treatment markets (essential)
  • Experience in developing new business preferably within both the UK and EMENA territories
  • Experience in developing and delivering sales strategy and plans.
  • An understanding of the manufacturing industry (preferably the manufacture of capital equipment).
  • Good technical mindset, curious and eager to learn and expand your product knowledge.
  • The adaptability and willingness to carry out a range of different roles within a small business and be part of a hands-on senior management team.
  • Focused and tenacious when it comes to delivering and achieving results.
  • A pro-active nature with a rational and questioning mind to help identify and seek out new opportunities for the business to explore.
  • Be approachable and confident, with the credibility to develop relationships with customers.
  • A personable, professional, and diplomatic nature with great relationship building skills.
  • Strong leadership and management skills; experience of goal setting, mentoring, training, and staff development.
  • Willingness to travel around the UK regularly including spending approximately 3 days every fortnight at the offices in Hadleigh, Suffolk and take monthly trips to Europe, the Middle East or North Africa depending on business needs.

It is imperative that the new Director of Sales has a willingness to work harmoniously with the existing management team, whilst understands that in time will also need to bring about progressive but well-considered change.

Plus standard auto enrolment pension and 28 days annual leave entitlement (inc. bank holidays) plus an additional 3 days after two years’ service.
