As our student numbers increase and we continue to diversify our programmes and portfolio, we are looking for a high-calibre individual to join our Disability and Inclusion Service team as a Disability and Inclusion Advisor.
The service supports students experiencing a range of disabilities, mental health conditions, long and short-term health conditions and learning differences to access their course and realise their full potential.
This is a fantastic opportunity to join a well-established and respected department. As a Disability an Inclusion Advisor, you will contribute to a timely and student-centred specialist advice and guidance service to applicants and disabled students at the University of Law.
You will be a passionate inclusion specialist, with an ability to develop effective and close working relationships with students, and internal and external stakeholders.
As our Disability and Inclusion Advisor, you will:
- Provide timely and student-centred advice, support and guidance to disabled students and those with specific learning differences, and medium to long-term physical and mental health conditions, from the point of application through to graduation.
- Advise prospective disabled students on accessibility issues and the support available to them whilst at the University of Law.
- Advise and support applicants and students on applications for Disabled Students’ Allowances (DSA) and other funding streams that may be available to them.
- Maintain a caseload, providing continuing support for applicants and students, including case reviews and updates to provision, liaison with Disability Liaison Officers (DLOs), academic and business professional colleagues, including Estates and Facilities, as required, to ensure that students are able to access their studies at all times.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date case notes of interactions with service users using CRM, including all advice given, compliance with service standards, confidentiality and Data Protection requirements are maintained.
We are looking for people who:
- Are educated to at least degree level or have an equivalent level of work experience.
- Have relevant experience of supporting learning for disabled students, mental health issues or specific learning differences.
- Have significant knowledge of the barriers faced by disabled students in higher education, and the breadth of appropriate responses and adjustments to ensure effective support for their learning.
- Possess an excellent understanding of the range of assistive technologies available and how they support disabled students.
- Are able to prioritise, organise and deliver a complex and changing workload without constant supervision and to deadlines.
