Job description

My client is a dynamic and award-winning multi-office practice which provides a comprehensive range of legal services to clients across the UK.

They recognise that employees are their greatest asset and are now seeking a Newly Qualified Solicitor or Paralegal to work in the Dispute Resolution & Litigation Department to assist with the substantial current case load and increase in instructions.

This role will suit a Newly Qualified Solicitor or a Paralegal with a strong academic background and experience of handling a broad and varied civil litigation and dispute resolution case load. The successful applicant will work full time assisting the Head of Dispute Resolution & Litigation in a busy department. They must be excellent at time management, have good drafting, communication and IT skills, show attention to detail, the ability to undertake research, communicate with clients and others, provide pragmatic and commercial advice, draft legal documents and correspondence, and be willing to attend networking events and assist in continuing to build the department.

Job Purpose: To assist the Dispute Resolution & Litigation Department working both autonomously and as part of a team to manage the current case load and to continue to build the department

Key Responsibilities

1. To assist with current case load and build own case load in thriving Dispute Resolution and Litigation Department, including building relationships with clients and contacts.
2. To undertake varying administrative tasks and assist in the smooth running of the department.
3. To use initiative to draft, review and advise on correspondence and to draft correspondence, court documents and settlement agreements.
4. To take and make calls to clients, opponents and other third parties including other professionals and provide information, advice and updates as requested and directed.
5. To negotiate successfully and tactfully based on the client’s goals and legal, commercial and practical considerations.
6. To attend client meetings to take instructions, review documentation and provide advice.
7. To prepare court bundles, including using software, and copy documents where required.
8. To attend court to conduct hearings and sit behind counsel as and when necessary, and to attend home visits when required.
9. To work autonomously when appropriate and as part of a team.

Person specification essential skills and qualifications:

• Strong academic record and experience of undertaking broad and varied civil litigation and dispute resolution case load.
• The ability to work on your own and as part of a team.
• Excellent IT skills.
• Excellent organisation, presentation, and communication skills.
• Good professional connections and a desire and willingness to network.

Personal attributes:

• Be reliable and diligent with good attention to detail.
• Self-motivation to work independently and as part of a team with a ‘can do’ attitude.
• Good interpersonal skills.
• A positive approach to working under pressure in a busy environment.
• A full driving licence.
