Caterpillar's Small Drivetrain (SDT) is a market leader in the design, development, sales and support of off-highway transmissions(50 kW / 67 hp to 135 kW / 180 hp) for Backhoe Loaders, Telescopic Material Handlers and Wheel Loaders, supplied internally for Building construction Products and externally to original equipment manufacturers.
As the Drivetrain Design Engineering Specialist , you will guide a team to solve complex, global technical problems through innovative solutions and provide input into product strategy. You will manage the planning and delivery of technical projects, continually learn and stay abreast of innovative technology, mentor and coach enterprise team members, and deepen your professional network.
Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
Responsible for transmission design, first point of contact for all groups for input and expertise.
Guide drivetrain component teams in the strategy and design of new products, components, and systems.
Provide technical guidance on understanding requirements, initiate ideas and problem solve for component, product, or process.
Communicate results to global customers, suppliers, team members, and other business units
Developing and managing technical project plans to ensure the team meet commitments to deliver projects on time meeting project and design cost objectives.
Acknowledge and raise customers’ and management’s awareness of trade-offs between time, resources and quality.
Effective engagement with the wider team to influence direction.
Present and share information in a compelling way, at the appropriate level of detail for the audience.

Candidates will have gained the following skills and experience through previous roles:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical engineering/other related discipline or extensive relevant experience
Significant relevant experience in Transmission, Engine or Drive Train end to end design process design and development (>10 years)
Results driven with a positive attitude and an understanding of when to get into the details to address concerns or set direction.
Experience of technical project management and planning.
Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
Proven team leadership, collaboration and interpersonal skills
6 Sigma tools and processes
Pro/e or 3D modelling and drawing creation experience.
Off highway or similar Drivetrain Design experience would be an advantage
Significant experience in detailed design and development, and production launch, of drivetrain, transmissions, transmission sub-systems and transmission components.
Demonstrable design and development experience with countershaft, hystat, planetary transmissions. Hydraulic systems, hydraulic component integration (valves / pumps / motors), wet clutches. Gears (planetary, helical, bevel, spur), shafts, bearings, and housings.

Salary: £59,500-£72,500 depending on experience
