This is an exciting time to join Solihull’s Education, Health and Care Plan Team as we continue to grow our service. Due to an increased investment to expand the team, we are currently recruiting for additional Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) Officers to join the service.

We have a number of opportunities for:

  • EHCP Officer – Full time (37 hours per week), Permanent.

  • EHCP Officer – Full time (37 hours per week) 12 months Fixed Term Contract – due to external funding. Internal secondments will be considered for the Fixed Term posts.

We are looking for professionals with experience in special educational needs who are seeking a new challenge and responsibility in an exciting and fast paced role. Working as part of a dedicated team, you will request and collate information from a number of partner services in line with the local authority’s legal duties and working processes.

As an EHCP Officer you will manage a caseload of children and young people with Educational Health Care Plans who are under assessment, identifying and raising complex cases with your supervisor and supporting parents, young people and schools.

You will effectively be able to engage with parents, young people and schools, ensuring that they are supported, and that their EHCP journey is underpinned by co-production principles.

To be considered for this opportunity you will have:

  • A relevant professional qualification (Teaching, Psychology, Child Care, Social Work) or considerable experience of employment in an educational setting, EHCP Officer role or another role relating to the statutory SEND framework.

  • Detailed Knowledge and experience of working to the Special Educational Needs (SEN) Code of Practice and Statutory SEN processes.
  • Experience of undertaking assessments, support planning and review in a child-centred approach.
  • Strong analytical and evaluative skills required to write EHC Plans.

This is an incredibly rewarding role which will test your ability to manage multiple workflows and to prioritise and communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders. You will be at the centre of facilitating positive outcomes for a group of highly vulnerable children and young people.

This role offers hybrid working opportunities - currently office based 3 days per week Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday with the option of working from home on a Thursday and Friday.

We also offer:

  • Flexible working, including flexi leave up to 24 days per year
  • Generous annual leave entitlements with opportunity to buy up to 10 days additional leave per year
  • Access to our Employee Assistance Programme – a 24 hour independent, free and confidential advice and support service
  • Family and Carer friendly policies
  • Access to the Local Government Pension Scheme
  • Employee benefits including subsidised travel passes, Cycle 2 Work Scheme and a staff discount card.

Candidates can be appointed at Band E or Band F level - please see attached Job Description for further details. Incremental progression between bands is dependent on experience, performance and undertaking the additional specified criteria of the Band F role which includes Level 4 SEND Caseworker award which the council offers to permanent staff in this role.
